There was hardly a place in this strange world that Avari could have imagined that would contrast her and her "partner" more than this.
It was bright and colourful, with gigantic versions of toys everywhere - and completely empty. It was as if a massive toddler had just made a town out of whatever it could get on hand, and then deserted it.
She rather liked the solitude, though the sharply angled building blocks and other scattered toys limited the visibility. If a Digimon was hiding in wait to attack, it was a great place to do it. However, the lack of noise other than wind piping through the almost labyrinthine town soothed her. If there were other travellers, she would have good warning before she stumbled upon them - and that meant she could compose herself, or avoid them if need be. Being unable to rid herself of one person was enough.
BlackGabumon was a constant shadow, right at her side or dogging - she hadn't really intended that pun - her heels. He was as quiet as a shadow too, never giving his opinion unless asked it, which was... perhaps the best she could expect given the situation.
She had not been able to get rid of him in either world, and he apparently was attached enough to show alarm if she suggested parting ways. It was strange how quickly he could go from relaxed and silent to desperate, and the change had shocked her enough that she hadn't made such an offer again. He accepted the idea that she wasn't happy with his companionship without any worry, though - her absence bothered him but her disapproval didn't.
Enigma that he was, she had plenty of time to ponder how to somehow shift his trust in her to someone else. Now, she considered the street they were on, trying to ignore the garish colours.
"Have you been here before?" She hadn't decided how much she had to lie to him about, and he had a disturbing amount of knowledge about her at times - enough that she had hedged and didn't bother settling on a distinct personality or story.
He tilted his head, long ears twitching as he considered the question. "Once, but it was a long time ago, and I cannot remember everything." She would have nodded and kept walking, but he suddenly growled, the sound quickly cut off as he raised an arm to block her. "I can hear people."
Her luck as usual, it seemed.

"No, I'm not going to take it easy. This is the second place we've run into that might have a way back home, and so far it's been a bust."
Ryusuke was, bluntly put, not in a good mood. While he never was much of a raging optimist before, he'd always been at least somewhat positive about the current state of most every situation that he usually found himself in, but the last few days had managed to wear on his nerves more than any in recent memory. While being trapped in a world that was not his own, something he didn't even think possible less than a week ago, he'd been forced to run, fight and deal with situations he would've rather not known existed to begin with. The fact that one of his travel buddies wasn't nearly as stable as he'd initially thought her to be was also some cause for concern - while she'd reverted back to how she'd acted before for the most part since the last incident, she wasn't quite the same.
As it was Ryusuke himself was still in some disbelief over the fact that the natural inhabitants of the world he was now in - intelligent, self aware, communicative beings, sentient by anyone's standards - were being captured and sold into servitude. While he'd quickly recovered from the initial shock, it didn't make dealing with the moral and ethical complications any easier, especially when viewed in the light that those very individuals could well be his best means of returning home.
His irritation had only deepened when they'd come across the strange little town they were now in, situated at the edge of a rather expansive desert but eerily empty, the buildings hinting at a possible way back to the human world but offering none. It didn't seem to bother Monodramon all that much, but then again very little seemed to upset the dragon - he enjoyed the fights that Ryusuke would have preferred to avoid, and was indifferent to just about everything else except for the idea of Ryusuke going his own way. Following just behind Renamon but allowing her a fair bit of distance for personal space, Ryusuke was beginning to wonder how long it would take until luck finally decided to swing his way, and how long it would be until people in his world noticed his absence after being gone for nearly six days.

The journey continued. New people, new places, new experiences, and all other things people find on the road. Not all of them are nice, interesting or enthralling though. Sometimes you find out something you were better off not knowing. This ... probably was the case...
During their whole trip through the sewers, ending up in this ... this toybox city, the renamon was ... somewhat silent. She used to chat and ask curiously before, but ... after what happened, not so much. Her feelings were ... mixed, on the subject. And the issue, once more, pressed against humans. Humans. She did not like them much ever since she woke up, and this was only adding more to the subconscious grudge she already bore. Slaves. They captured digimon for slavery somehow... This was repulsive to the core. It cast a long nasty shadow over all of humanity, because there were people who caught, and people who bought... Quite a lot.
This was the reason she stopped talking to Ryusuke much... Sure, he proved himself to still be on the side of the angels when they met that boy... that Valus. Only memory made her angry, something that never happened before. This was ... frightening actually, which was another aftermath she had to deal with now... That ... that wasn't her back then. Even if angry, she would never come so far as to actually harm someone. She would scream, cuss, but never inflict anything... And yet she remembered her intents back then... Which were pretty clear...
Her mind torn between musing over the slavery issue, which was depressing to her, and thinking about what exactly happened, she did not really care where she was going. It felt like she knew her way around here - the head wasn't turning around much, no curiosity. Because ... she kinda did know the way. This road, that alleyway, this house ... all so familiar. Incredibly familiar. She was sure about this - she was here more than once. Her dream of the place confirmed it. Damn, all of this was too much for her poor little head to handle - not one, but three subjects to think about, each demanding attention... She would have to pay each some time... when she gets any. Maybe at night, when the others are sleeping. She did not need a lot of that to keep going...
This place was creepy indeed though. A toy town. A ghost town. Deserted, abandoned, lonely... Depressing. Toys lying on the floor... abandoned, forgotten. It all looked ... kinda sad. In her dreams, she saw digimon, many digimon!! And they were laughing, happily so... Where were they now? What happened? Incredibly strange that was... Oh great, yet another thing to think about, the poor fox couldn't get a break, could she? Suddenly, she stopped. Her ears perked up. She heard... footsteps. Again. Which did not belong to the trio... Out of three, she had excellent hearing, being able to determine direction from where they were coming from. Leaning to a wall, peering out cautiously, she informed the rest:
- Someone... No. Two someones...

Everything in this place was so surreal. The deeper he explored, the more amazing and strange this world became... at least, that's what part of him wanted to believe. Truth was, the triumph he'd felt the other day hadn't lasted nearly as long as he'd hoped it would. Once the heat of the moment was spent, no amount of replaying the scenario in his mind could make him feel anything close to the exhilaration he'd felt that day, now it just made him feel worried and angry. Like he'd accomplished nothing at all.
He felt restless... possibly because he hadn't been home for several days.
In an act of petty vengeance, he'd smashed the terminal that would have been his exit, simply because there was an off chance that the Yagami kid could have found it. He'd wanted to make him suffer for looking down on him like that - to pay him back for practically threatening him. Getting home hadn't been his concern, all he'd wanted was to make that other person hurt and ruin his chances further. He hadn't been thinking, not clearly. And now he was stuck himself. Huddled in the corner of some abandoned bakery with a broken door.
There was a sound of crunching from the floor beside him as his partner ate, crumbs spilling everywhere. There was food here, yes, but Valus was afraid to eat it. Bread and sweets mostly it was, liberated from the bakery they were now squatting in. He hadn't seen any owners... and he hadn't thought anything of breaking in and taking what he wanted. He didn't like thinking of himself as an immoral person, but denying that only made the words Yagami had spoken sink in more.
"Valoos, yer starvin' over there. Tho' normally I'd say crammin' sweeties is bad, in this case you should like." The enthusiasm was gone from her voice, but Modoki was still talking to him incessantly. Even if she did talk as a way of avoiding troubles, the fact that she could still pretend to care so convincingly puzzled him. Stirring up feelings inside that he didn't particularly want to deal with either.
"No thanks."
Nudging away some sort of glazed confection that had been placed on the ground next to him, Valus shook his head and continued staring blankly out the empty doorway. Modoki sighed, and shook her head disapprovingly. "Yer nothin' as it is! I don' wanna see you waste away in front o' me eyes!" as she gasped, about to say more, the look on Valus' face changed and she paused. Creeping over to the edge of the doorway and peering around. "Blimey! Lookie there! That's Shion, that is!"
And so it was.

Just the announcement that there were people around wasn't enough to deter her - she kept walking, hoping that BlackGabumon had managed to hear echoes of far-off footsteps or voices.
It wasn't that she was tired of the effort whenever she met someone, or ensuring that she didn't contradict herself. It was easier if she didn't meet anyone she had met before - or if she did, to keep the next encounter brief. People were sometimes more perceptive than she wished they were, and she had made a few people suspicious before. of course, she was much more skilled now, and used to the thought of lying constantly.
There was still the question of how to deal with BlackGabumon, or to deal with him at all. He had not questioned her about insisting on being "Shion" when they met someone else, and he never pointed out her real name or poked holes in the lie. In fact, he seemed to have no interest in anything beyond following her - a lack of purpose so flat that she couldn't believe that was all he cared about. Of course, if she thought that he was planning something, then that meant she had to be even more careful around him than with any random bystander....
And to tell the truth for once, it was a difficult task to keep track of everything she said and did, to study her own expression all the time and ensure she never contradicted herself with the lies she fed him. She had never been in such constant contact with anyone for such a long time, and it made things much harder.
"The boy and the Koromon," BlackGabumon suddenly reported, head tilted to one side. He had broken her train of thought, but perhaps that was for the best. To meet Valus again... well, perhaps it couldn't be helped. She rounded the corner and blinked, smiling at the boy and his partner - who appeared to be a Rookie now - in the doorway of a building.
It was... a bakery? The food that his digimon was currently devouring looked appetizing, but she hung back, waving cheerily even as BlackGabumon quietly continued to scout the area. "Hey Valus! I didn't think I'd see you again - oh man, that sounds like... I don't know, a death wish, right? I didn't mean it like that! But I didn't really expect to come back so soon.... But here I am! Oh wow, are those éclairs? You don't mind if I have one, right?" She walked past him to peer at the baked goods, BlackGabumon quickly following her without any hesitation.
"Three more are coming," he murmured, head tilted as if listening to ascertain the number. She grinned, part of the routine, and patted him on the head as if he really were a dog.
"You're just so cool, BlackGabumon! I can't believe how good your hearing is!" She wondered just what kind of person - or Digimon - wouldn't be surprised at her change of personality around others, and would take sudden praise completely in stride.
The devotion he apparently owed her was almost unnerving in its scope, but... she couldn't get rid of him. She needed the protection if she was going to travel, anyways.
"I wonder what other people would be walking around here? It's pretty spooky, isn't it? Like a horror movie or something!"

The moment Renamon stopped, Ryusuke and Monodramon did as well, the teen's expression lightening up slightly but not nearly as much as one might expect - the last person he'd met had resulted in a far less than satisfactory encounter, and his luck had been rather suckish of late. Still, there remained a slight possibility that it might've been a halfway decent human being, and it was worth checking out on the offchance that they had a way back. Besides, his track record in that department wasn't all that bad - with his cousin and that ass he ran into at the factory, it all about balanced out, with the pink haired girl not altering the balance much. Sure, she'd been among the people who'd saved him during his first unintentional jaunt into this world, but she was way too noisy and insulting to count as a full positive.
"Can you tell which way?" Ryusuke asked, looking at the back of Renamon's head with an attentive but not quite upbeat expression, pulling his gloved hands out of his pockets, his longcoat falling back into place to hide his digivice. He still didn't quite understand what her problem was from before, save that it had to do with humans in general, but even still that worked in his favor - if she was simply tolerating his presence since the factory, then it made all that much more sense for her to help him find a way out.
At the very least Monodramon was somewhat cheered by the news, although he stayed silent for the moment - there simply wasn't anything that really needed saying. If there was another human here, then it might mean a way out for Ryusuke - even if Monodramon didn't figure out a way to tag along as he had the first time, it still made him feel slightly uneasy to see his partner so distraught when there was little that Monodramon could do to fix the problem. Still, there was always the alternative - possibly someone to fight, and the idea was enough to make Monodramon eager to see who else was in the village with them.

- Can ... I? I ... can... - she only nodded affirmatively, giving a jest to follow her lead. Maybe those steps and voices were the little remains of who actually lived in this place? Maybe it was not as abandoned as she thought it would? Maybe ... maybe someone would remember her here? The fox was rather hopeful about that. Because if she were here, she would have been remembered. Renamons are ... rare somewhat. One could have easily remembered someone as imposing as she was...
But as they approached the location the renamon heard sounds from, her perked ears twitched some more. New sounds came... Familiar-sounding sounds. And vivid images appeared from afar. She stopped again, narrowing her eyes to see better. And focused on sounds once more. Hearing is a good talent, it allows to avoid trouble you cannot see... Or find it, if that is what you are looking for...
- More people... Humans... - she sighed out, her expression, well... different. Before, she got frightened of even mentioning of humans. Now, she looked ... annoyed. Her distaste outweighed her cautiousness, so there was no hiding behind Ryusuke this time, neither was any flighting stance, preparing to run away. The renamon still did not want to meet humans though.
She had her reasons. She did not know much about humans. One of them, standing now next to her, was nice enough... The other ... not so much. And since no one spent time to explain to her that not all humans were slavers and bastards, her view was ... 50:50. That, and she was afraid someone would provoke her again... She remembered when it happened near the factory. It was ... scary. She was not like that! And yet, where did it come from?
- Meet ... they. Them... Really? Required?

"Shion? I... this is strange, isn't it?" One of those girls again? Showing up by chance like this? It was a pretty strange thing to happen, but then... who was he to complain? He was sheltering inside a bakery in a city that looked like it had been designed by an underage architect. And he had food to spare, chances are that was more appealing to Shion than the prospect of his company.
Shion's arrival certainly was doing wonders for Modoki's spirits, at least if the familiar crooked smile and sideways shuffling that made her fin wobble were to be believed. "Shion love! My, this be a right stroke o' luck so it is! Go on, 'elp yerself dear! Shame wastin' this good food by lettin' it stand!" saying that, she shot Valus a dark look, which he was quick to return. "In a bit of a mood Valoos is, right enough. Like a thundercloud he's been! All day long! Reckon it's 'is empty stomach, I do... try though I might-" Quickly Valus reached out his arm and snatched up a fallen croissant with a fruit filling, practically shoving it into his mouth, which made Modoki snicker briefly with satisfaction.
For a moment... things felt kind of normal again. Like the incident at the factory was a forgotten memory.
"Thank'ee Shion dear! Embarassin' 'im is so much easier when you're around, right it is like!" Modoki chuckled amid brief hoots of mocking laughter, her words only making Valus more confused and enraged. At the same time though, it was a relief for both of them to drop their guards for just a moment in familiar company. Shion was a harmless girl, after all. Just maybe she didn't have time to judge people... maybe.
"Ignore her, you know that by now." he muttered, sweeping away a few crumbs left behind from his quick snack, brushing them towards Modoki - who immediately flicked them back again. "She just wants your attention... what brings you here? Are you lost?" The wind was knocked out of him no sooner had he finished speaking, Modoki jumping up suddenly and landing on his knees, shuffling around and trying to get comfortable.
"Been 'ere a couple o' days, since tha' little incident with..." Valus grunted loudly to clear his throat, cutting her off, "A wild Digimon. It attacked me and... it was close. Really close." his voice quavering a little towards the end, shaken slightly by the memory, reluctantly Modoki nodded her head in reluctant agreement. Getting the message that her partner didn't want to disclose the full details of the situation... and neither did she, really. Even bringing it up like this was putting a dampener on their moods. What they wanted was to forget - both of them.

"Uh... you're welcome! I'm glad I could help!" she said, beaming at Valus' partner. Really, she had little understanding of how her presence had miraculously managed to force Valus into eating, and she had no real interest in analysing it. What she was going to do was take part in the pastries - she hadn't had baked goods like this in a while, and though they weren't her favourite, the enthusiasm was easy to fake.
"Wow, these are really good! It's great that you found this place... And yeah, we're lost. I guess it's kind of obvious, huh?" she said, giggling in between nibbles of a fruit tart. She offered one to BlackGabumon - he took it with a blank look, and only tried it after some time watching her eat. She couldn't help wondering if that too was an act - the surprise at her offer, the hesitance....
Yes, her partner unnerved her. She knew that most people did not lie to the extent that she did, but... if he was chosen by fate - as Chinatsu and Kyokyomon had mentioned - then perhaps he lied as much as she did. Being thrown together by destiny only gave her more reasons to watch out for him, not less. Smiling gently as he eventually ate his cookie, she reached out to ruffle his pelt. "BlackGabumon, why don't you go out and find the people who are coming? The more the merrier, right? You can... uh, wave at them or something to let them know we're here! Maybe they'll share the food!" More like she wanted to not be surprised or have them walk in while her back was turned. The way things were going, if she didn't go out and find them first, they would show up in the worst moment, or stumble upon the bakery or something - and she didn't like such surprises.
He blinked, nodded and left the bakery without complaint, moving out into the street with quiet efficiency.
She toyed with a strand of her hair, eyes widening as Valus described his encounter without any real detail. Still, she knew what was expected, leaning forward and looking appropriately shocked. "Oh man, that's horrible! You're alright, though? You don't look hurt, and Koromon protected you, right? Though I suppose you changed your name since you digivolved..." Sorry about BlackGabumon too - he doesn't seem polite since he doesn't like to talk much, but he's kind of nice, just... you know. The strong silent type!" She announced this last with another giggle, whatever trauma Valus experienced appearing to be banished from her mind.
She had to be careful not to overplay this - Shion's rambling was difficult to stop once she had started, because all the empty words were yet another layer to the shield between herself and the world.
She shouldn't let it affect her like that.
It was strange, how things blurred. She did not want people near her - and they never were, not really - and yet because of the lies she often had to go out of her way to include them so as to ensure she knew where they were, so she could leave at any time. When had she started to compromise herself? When had it stopped mattering?
...She didn't really care either way if she met a few more people. Maybe she could extract some useful information - people were generally willing to answer a barrage of questions if she smiled and laughed as she asked them.

Renamon's initial reply somewhat eased Ryusuke's nerves, only for her to begin bringing them down again as she showed clear hesitation regarding his request. While he didn't completely understand where her initial fear of humans had come from given her apparent retrograde amnesia, he could easily understand where her current dislike came from, although that didn't necessarily make things easier for him.
"I won't ask you to do it if you don't want to. You've already been plenty helpful up 'til now, but if there are other humans here they're my best bet on a way home, and the last guy we ran into was the exception - he was a complete ass, and if everyone from my world was like that I doubt I'd be wanting to go back in the first place. Monodramon and I will find them ourselves if that's the case." Ryusuke said, making an effort to force gratitude into his voice while suppressing the irritation, moving to walk around Renamon while leaving her a clear berth for personal space. It was only several seconds after he spoke that he realized he'd said "Monodramon and I" without really thinking about it, a small detail that bothered him more than it probably should have. Still, there was the incident from the factory to consider as well - it'd only been throug dumb luck that Renamon hadn't ended up causing serious harm to that asshole Valus, and while Ryusuke didn't like the idea at all, there was always the possibility of stringing the individual that they met along until he found a way home if they turned out to be from the same group Valus had come from.
As Ryusuke began walking forward Monodramon quickened his pace to catch up, secretly ecstatic about being included in Ryusuke's statement. He didn't know if it'd been a slip of the tongue or if it meant Ryusuke was actually beginning to forgive him for the mishap in Misty Woods that had trapped Ryusuke in the digital world, but Monodramon didn't particularly care - as far as he was concerned, either one was a step forward, and meant that they were just that much less likely to avoid being at least permanently seperated from Ryusuke when it came time for his human partner to leave for his own world. Nodding once in acknowledgement to Renamon as he passed her, Monodramon moved to follow Ryusuke's footsteps.

The renamon rose her eyebrow as she considered the boy's words regarding what she did for them before, what they were going to do ... and about humans in general. The latter managed to catch her interest enough to give it a thought or two. She knew for a fact that humans existed as good or bad, with this boy being the good example, and that boy, that ... Valus, the bad one. Question only was how many were good and how many - bad... Could she trust his word that good people were more than bad? She figured she could - thoughts about anybody lying never crossed her mind.
- Will show... I will... - she said, moving with the other two. She had more reasons than that, reasons she would soon tell: - Ask ... human ... met. Digimon ... about. Slaver ... be could... - she made it clear enough. Hopefully new humans they would meet would be nice humans, and not those bad ones. Because if there would be any bad ones things might get ... messy again.
Soon, however, one more clear silhouette moved through the mist and at them. At first glance, she determined, it was ... a digimon. A digimon unknown to her, and yet she did not know many species, not remembered much. Did not matter anyway. As it approached, and her eyes focused on him, the image was clear. Some sort of an animal-like one, covered by some sort of a hide over his head. Of colors black and white. Not ringing any bells, sadly. But she reacted to presence of one calmer than one of a human... Coming within audible range, she called out to the mysterious digimon:
- Hello ... there...

Watching Shion as she ate, as usual Valus found most of what she said as mind-numbing as his partner's small talk, the combination of the two of them talking in the same room enough to keep him quite off-balance. He smiled anyway. Shion was doing it, and that encouraged him to do so as well. A bad impression was the last thing he wanted to make right now after what had just happened. And besides, this delusion wasn't entirely unpleasant.
"ModokiBetamon is wha' I go by now, thank'ee! Hold off on them apologies like too my lovely! Yer' partner is just darlin', ain't he Valoos?"
While darlin' wasn't quite how he would describe the black-furred wolf who had just taken his leave, Valus did nod his head, for there was no denying that Shion had bagged herself an excellent choice of partner. Quiet, imposing, obedient... destiny had made a wrong match indeed pairing him with a gossip like Shion. No, he had the attitude of a soldier. What rotten luck that he hadn't been captured by AIR first, for Valus would have jumped at the chance to own such a creature in a heartbeat. Then he would have been put to much better use than... whatever it was that Shion used him for - a liaison?
"We won't be in this place long, so you're free to use it Shion. It isn't like anyone seems to own it, anyway..." This was news to Modoki, and she shot him a questioning glance, but he just shrugged. Gesturing vaguely that Shion was welcome to the meager food and shelter available from this place. "Tha's nice an all Valoos, but it don' help that we're all of us lost now, no rightly. No way home." Now it was Valus' turn to be surprised, and he glanced down at Modoki. True to form, she shrugged at him back. He scowled, which made her smile bigger.
"Jus' like back in them woods, we lot 'ought to stick together! Shion, please love?" Travel around with Shion? Valus... wasn't sure what to make of that. He had started to feel safer with her around, but then there were other dangers that came from traveling around in a big group. More people meant that more supplies were needed, and it was easier to notice and follow the tracks made by four than it was for two. Before that wouldn't have mattered, but now with Yagami and that fox...
"Modoki! You don't have to do it, Shion. Seriously, she's just-" he was trying to back out of it gently, but he'd never get the chance. Nature intervened first. "Valoos! Don' be so shy lad! Jus' tell 'er that ye'd be flattered if she'd join us like! Tha' what you was goin' to say, I'm rightly sure? Narrowing his eyes, Valus was sure now that his partner was up to something. She was making unwanted implications on his behalf and dragging out this decision longer.
And then, before he could raise further objections, he heard the voice outside.

In the street, BlackGabumon stood almost like a statue, waiting until the Renamon and her two companions were in relatively polite earshot. Then, when the Renamon called out, he nodded gravely before turning around and leading the way back to the bakery He didn't stop or turn around to see if they were following him - it was clearly their choice if they did so.
Inside, Avari ate another tart and listened idly to ModokiBetamon's introduction and continuing flood of chatter, though the Rookie got a smile for her praise of BlackGabumon. Avari hardly believed that it was a good description - even strong and silent implied a certain romanticism that he just didn't have. His desperate plea to not be left behind in the digital world if she left, and the way he followed her, both indicated that he held some sort of affection for her that she could not return. And yet... he never showed it, beyond that. And, she supposed, listening to her orders and obeying without hesitation.
The request for joining up with them came out of the blue, though, and she froze, stifling the instinctive urge to deny it completely. That would only give away her true feelings, and be utterly useless. Valus had spent more time here than her. He still had useful information.
"I don't know how much help I'd be, since I'm lost too - and you've been here longer, right? But... maybe. It'd be fun! We could... camp and stuff!" So far, camping had not been the most comfortable experience, but no need to betray her discomfort in the rather unnerving wilderness that made up a great deal of the Digital World. "This is going to sound like I don't like you, but... could you let me think about it for a bit? I mean - it's just kind of sudden, and I'm not sure if BlackGabumon likes being around other people..." She really doubted he would object if she announced that she would be travelling with Valus, but they didn't need to know that either.
The sound of footsteps and voices - presumably the people that BlackGabumon had detected - were coming closer, and she saw him stand by the door. Driven partially by the need to know just how many she would have to deal with, she stepped out, waving cheerily at the odd group.
"Hi! Wow, so other people really are wandering around in this spooky place! Do you want some cookies or something?"

Ryusuke's pace slowed as Renamon spoke, letting out a quiet a sigh of relief as he could when she agreed to help. As he'd said, he had no right to continue asking her to help him when he really had nothing to offer in return, especially after the debacle in front of the factory complex. He'd still only been able to formulate vague guesses as to why she had snapped so suddenly..... no, that wasn't exactly it, either. It wasn't the fact that she had snapped that wasn't understandable or comprehensible - he'd nearly decked the guy himself, and it'd only been the self discipline instilled in him over the last several years that had prevented him from choking the guy out as soon as he'd revealed what he was. In hindsight, that probably would have been the best course of action logically speaking, but then what right would Ryusuke have to speak against Valus' practice of forcing something to stay against its will?
As Ryusuke stopped long enough for Renamon to take the lead again, Monodramon mirroring his action, the teen's mind continued to go over the events prior to following Valus' trail to Toy Town. There was another thing bothering him as well, and while it was a slightly older issue than Renamon's, it had been brought to his attention yet again - Valus had referred to Ryusuke thinking of himself as "special", in almost the same way that Monodramon continually referred to Ryusuke as a partner. What the hell did that even mean? And then there was the matter of what happened to Monodramon himself, similar to the incident that had trapped him here and yet different - Monodramon had changed yet again, and the transformation had been just as drastic as before. After reviewing the events during the trip to Toy Town he'd noted that the thing called a digivice had come on by itself again at the exact same moment - it and Monodramon were obviously linked in some manner, but so were he and the machine given that it was what had allowed him passage into the digital world to begin with.
Ryusuke's head felt like it was going to explode from trying to understand it all when Renamon stopped, calling out ahead of them. Stopping himself, Monodramon doing likewise - "Oh. Another digimon?" - Ryusuke raised an eyebrow, perplexed at the creature's odd proportions. While similar to Monodramon's current form in a number of ways, it was still undeniably different. If anything it almost looked like a dog, or would have if it wasn't wearing some kind of pelt over his or her head. Remaining silent, Ryusuke figured he'd let Renamon handle the initial contact - the last time Ryusuke had done so it had come very close to developing into a full scale brawl.

The digimon that came to meet them ... he was strange. Strange, and quiet. He only replied with a nod to renamon's greeting, and immediately turned around, going ... somewhere. Where? She did not know, there was no explanation from him. It was like he did not care at all if he was followed or not. Talked to or not...Weird, if anything. The trio followed the mysterious guide regardless...
And they were lead to what looked like an abandoned bakery. The windows were shattered in a few places, and there was no door. Inside was dark enough. The fox looked suspiciously at it, then at the digimon - she did not like how this place looked like, at all. She did not like the city much either. It was like a ghost-town, too creepy. And her whole journey within it so far was pointless.
She was hoping to find people here. Familiar faces. Ask them if they saw her. Maybe be lucky enough to receive the next piece of the puzzle. For now, all this was for naught. She only find out she was here, but what good it would do if there's no one here to confirm it? None, that's for sure. Nothing sparkled the memory...
And there was no portal for Ryusuke to go in to either, which was another disappointment for her. She did not stick around with them for nothing after all. She picked locations where there could have been an off chance of finding a portal, but so far ... no luck whatsoever either. The thought of this journey being completely pointless was depressing enough as it was...
Renamon's mind somewhat in the clouds, she did not notice that she entered the bakery, following blackgabumon. And Ryusuke with his monodramon ought to be not too far behind. The smell of pastry hit her nose - how could there still be any if the city was clearly abandoned? No idea, but yet, this was a strange place, wasn't it? However, she did not expect who she would find inside...
The first person that caught her attention was the cheerful-looking girl. It was hard not to notice her because of a friendly wave and offering of cookies. The renamon wouldn't mind cookies at all... But later, a formal greeting was in order, wasn't it. After a little hesitation of remembering the right word, she replied:
- ... Hello...
The human, this human did not look particularly bad, she was cheerful and everything and the renamon was completely buying that mask, and would surely ask a few more questions, although it did not feel too comfortable with her standing in the doorway, blocking the path ... or line of sight... A commodity a certain person would appreciate muchly.
- Cookies ... nice ... are. But ... come ... others. Spare ... some. - she exhaled, and immediately turned away, ashamed by her crooked speech pattern. She wasn't even sure the girl got it all, although she did sound like a nice type of person, surely she wouldn't offend? And yet she was human...
- Question... Chance ... unlikely... is... Seen ... me ... has you? Before... - came out a question she asked upon meeting just about anyone. If only gabumon weren't so fast to retreat, she would have asked him too. But, remembering others should have been standing behind her too, she moved out of the past a bit to let them through also...
