There was always a meaning for everything that occurred in life. While people often had no idea what that meaning was, they accepted it and moved on. Of course, there were a few that didn't take too kindly to being made a fool. Those individuals chose to fight back against fate and make their own destiny. But by denying their set path to embark on a new one, were they simply delaying the eventual return to said destiny? Was choice ever an option?
It was rather silly that Misaka was asking herself this, standing outside in a field while holding a bamboo stick in both hands. The girl had been out here for over two hours, swinging the flexible piece of wood up and down. It was part of her training assignment, giving to her by her sensei. As a means to perform even strokes, she was to do this exercise in till she had managed to complete it 200 times. So far the young girl had managed to reach 150, meaning she was close to being done. But she couldn't help but wonder if there was another meaning behind this other than perfect striking?
Well....I haven't exactly been focused as of late...That might have something to do with it....
Of course, Misaka lack of focus had much to do with the arrival of DemiVeemon, who at the moment was standing inside of bag with a stick of his own. From what she had seen during the moments she checked on him, he appeared to be mimicking her actions from his hiding place. Thankfully, not too many people were paying attention to the moving twig in her bag that rested underneath a bench.
But her teacher did seem to have his eye drawn directly at her, causing her to flinch as she swiftly returned to looking forwards and completing her task.
Was choice an option? It was still a question that remained on her mind as she worked. Had she not been given a choice? Did she not have many choices she could make? Some days it didn't feel like that, least not with some of the events that revolved around her. Misaka recalled something a friend had told her, how she was likely more capable of physical activity than either of her siblings, despite one of them being in the same martial art as she was. In this, she began to wonder about her intellect. Just how well did it compare to theirs? Renn was a genius in everything except math, while Kazai was an overall child prodigy.
As for Misaka, she wasn't given that kind of gift. Smart as she was, she still needed to study and repeat what she learned over and over. Her grades were great, but not perfect. Was that what she really wanted? Perfection? It might help in getting noticed a little more.
Why do I want so much attention lately? It never bothered me before....
Feeling her eyes narrow as she remembered how easily she had taken to being second, the girl twirled the bamboo within her hand before gracefully performing a one handed cross slash and then standing straight. Maybe there was a part of her that was slightly bitter. Was that fault or just something that like everything else, needed to be pushed deep inside her soul to avoid confronting?

Kyle had spent most of the day studying with his father and going over not only basic educational skills, but new things about the digital world they had been researching together. All in all, his 'school' days lasted longer than that of an average student, and even extended into the nights and weekends. The boy never really got a break save for meals and the time he took off to get some sleep, because his afternoons were always spent combing the neighborhoods to try and find new digidestined or hollow ones to study.
He was running a bit later than normal today due to his father's extended study on why the digimon of the digidestined returned to their in-training form when they came over from the digital world. So far, Kyle hadn't brought his gabumon over from the digital world, and so he had been sent to find a digidestined nearby with their digimon and study them.
Though he had been walking the streets for a while, he hadn't found one just yet. He had passed streets full of seemingly quiet houses and parks full of children that were too young for study, none of which had a digimon partner either. Eventually, he found himself in front of a high school. Due to the time of day it was, he figured there should be at least a few stragglers from the club meetings and team practices. Most of the rest seemed to have already headed home for the evening.
Being home schooled meant that Kyle's intelligence was high, but his personal skills were lacking - that and he didn't get much time to actually research other children. So when he rounded a corner and saw a girl waving a stick, he was met with curiosity and confusion. As he continued to watch her, he noticed something moving near her feet. Upon closer inspection, he saw that a smaller stick was waving in just the same fashion, though from the inside of her bag. It took only moments for the boy's mind to put the pieces together and figure out the puzzle that was the scene in front of him.
This girl had a digimon.
Now, whether she was just a hollow one or a true digidestined was still unknown to him, but his wanderings had finally paid off. He knew that there was at least one digimon partnership at this school - perhaps he could use whatever data he could gather from this girl to persuade his father to enroll him in an actual school. After all, what better way to collect information than from the inside. He was already a spy within the digital world, why not extend it to the real world as well? Not that he didn't like the personal lessons from his father, he just got tired of hearing the same old thing every single day from the same boring guy. 4 paragraphs

Having finished her task, the girl sighed while wiping the sweat from her brow. Misaka just had a burst of aggravation and she wasn't completely sure where it came from.Perhaps it was all this training in the heat? Or maybe she was a lot more open with her feelings than she believed? In any case, it seemed to have faded away with the lowering of her weapon, bringing back the calm that she had previously. But it hadn't gone unnoticed, as her sensei walked towards her and sighed before nodding towards her and giving her leave.
With this, the teen bowed before reaching down to retrieve her backpack. Seeing the stick, Misaka was quick to zip it up and then proceeded to pulling it over her shoulder and walked away from the field. Sometimes, she wasn't sure what to make of the actions of the small digimon. Cute as he was, there was no way she could leave him out of her sight without him doing something that might endanger both of them. Though she never had the heart to scold him. After all, he was simply mimicking her own actions.
"So are we gonna head home?"
The small voice whispered from within the bag as the girl walked onwards towards the school with a calm expression.
"Yes...but you still have to stay quiet..."

"Some pretty slick moves you have." Kyle said from his place by the corner of the school as the girl with the digimon finished her practice and began walking towards him. "I've never studied swordsmanship before, but I do suppose copying someone else would be the best way to learn." Of course he was talking about the digimon copying his tamer's moves, but in all honesty, he had worded his comment in such a way that it could have also been understood as the girl copying her sensei's moves.
The boy was definitely interested in data he could collect from a real digidestined, especially in the real world. Not only could he research their bond, but what it was that makes them so strong, and why the rookie digimon return to their in-training forms when they come to the human world. He didn't understand any of it at all since everything he knew about them had been learned form his father and from a distance. This would be his chance to study them up close and personal.
Though he was intrigued, Kyle didn't have very much social skill, and so he didn't really know what else to say to the girl. He didn't quite want to start spouting data on digimon in such an open and public place as a school, so he supposed he would wait until a bit later. The only problem was that he didn't want to come off as creepy by just up and following her - after all, she did have a digimon for protection if she needed it, whereas his was still in the digital world. He supposed he could summon his Gabumon through his tablet, but he didn't think it would be worth it. After all, Kyle didn't even know whether he would come over as a Gabumon or his in-training form. Furthermore, Kyle didn't know what his digimon's in-training form was to begin with - he had only met him as a Gabumon and had him digivolve to champion a few times. 3 paragraphs

The voice was enough to stop her in her tracks, causing her to look in the direction of the figure that had spoken with a blank expression. Misaka looked at him, smiling kindly as she nodded in thanks for his compliment. While the did practice swordsmanship, she didn't herself greatly skilled at it. If anything, she was still a beginner, despite going two years in her training. But she wouldn't lie and say that she wasn't getting better. Even her Sensei seemed to think so, when she was focused that was.
"Thanks...I try my best..."
Shrugging lightly as she held onto the strap of her bag with her right hand, her smile faded somewhat when he mentioned the idea of copying others as a good method of learning. It was a rather misleading statement. After all, she didn't call her instructor performing the tasks that he had asked of them for that day. But that being the case, what could he have meant? Did he mean how everyone was doing the exact same thing? That had to be it. What else could he be referring to?
"Well...It helps in giving direction. Mimicking movements that are displayed make it easier to adapt to the correct position. But then, if we're all doing it wrong than it kinda defeats the purpose.."
Giggling as she held her free hand up to her face, then teen then realized her error before reach out her hand with a grin.
"Sorry...I don't think we've met before....I'm Yamashita Misaka..."

Kyle loved showing his intelligence in his speech, the simple fact that the girl hadn't caught on to what he had truly intended was the entire reason he said things in such ways. She really was trying to hide that digimon, and he found it amusing that she didn't hide it by simply leaving it in it's own world like he did. He was a bit intrigued at the way this girl was acting, partly because he hadn't yet researched digidestined in the real world, but also because he didn't have many personal skills either.
As such, he didn't quite understand the giggling. Were all digidestined like this? She certainly wasn't a hollow one, no she seemed too upbeat and protective over her digimon to be someone who had purchased one from an A.I.R. camp. Shortly after the giggles though, she extended her hand and told him what her name was. Yes, much too trusting of people she didn't even know.
"I was talking about that bag of yours." he said just before taking her extended hand. "Amazing how it copied every move you made Misaka." Unlike most, Kyle didn't like giving out his real name because it was far too easy to connect him with the A.I.R. team since his father was one of the lead researchers. As such, he always gave out an alias name instead. "Name's Tyren." he finished, just wondering how this girl would react to him admitting that he'd seen her bag move in perfect unison with her. 3 paragraphs

Misaka was in the middle of shaking his hand when it seemed like the whole world had shattered when he mentioned her bag moving. Her eyes went wide, looking from one side to the next as she then reeled her hand back gently as she rubbed the back of her neck with a nervous grin. He'd seen what DemiVeemon had been doing. This meant that he knew she was hiding something in her bag. Just how as she supposed to cover something like that up? Would lying even work here?
"Oh...Hahah...That...You saw...that! Hahaha..haha...That wasn't movement from my bag...That was....just the wind....blowing..my bag. I collect sticks!"
Looking to the side with a narrowed expression, Misaka could hardly believe she just said something so stupid. Who in their right mind would collect twigs and put them in their backpack? If her friends could see her now, they would laugh their heads off at the very mention of it. Still, it was the only thing she could come up with as an excuse. There was no way she could just say that she had a monster in her bag. Especially out here next to the school.
"Sticks?....Yup! Sticks! I'm crazy like that! Love me some woodlands!! Especially since you know...You can plant twigs back into the ground and grow trees out of them...Haha...haaaaa"
The image of Misaka drowning was clear within her head. If he was buying this, then the guy was pretty stupid. But the more she thought about it, the more she began to wonder about some of his actions. For one thing, he didn't seem the slightest bit surprised at the fact that something had been mimicking her in her bag. In fact, he was calm as a cucumber. Which brought up the question why he was?
Something is off about this guy....Course with the way I'm acting, he probably thinks the same thing about me....

Kyle was definitely enjoying this on some level, though it was difficult for him to show it. He was trying to figure out how to tell her that he knew all about digimon already, but really did suck when it came to conversation. He was doing pretty well for himself at the moment, but he knew it was going to be hard to keep up this calm cool and collected air to him.
When the girl began to babble almost incoherently, Kyle felt an odd sensation come over him. It had been so long since he had laughed that he was unsure of what was going on at first. A part of him was appalled at how unintelligent she seemed, yet at the same time he seemed to be amused by it. It was very odd for the boy, yet it wasn't something he didn't like. On the contrary, his amusement at the sudden situation made him feel quite exhilarated.
"You don't have to be so uptight about it, I know what it is." he began with the faintest of smiles accompanied by an airy little chuckle. "I was just trying not to say it right out since there are still so many people around."
Kyle couldn't help but shake his head at this odd sort of situation. It was definitely easier to talk about digimon while in their world. Talking about it here was near impossible without running the risk of being seen or overheard, and since he didn't know this area, he hoped that she would be able to come up with a safer place to talk. 3 paragraphs

So the question that had been bugging Misaka for the last few seconds had been answered. He was aware of digimon and their presence within the world. While she could ask him why or how he knew this, the teen wasn't too concerned about it. After all, she just dodged a bullet if he was the only one that noticed DemiVeemon. Things would have been a lot worse if it had been more than just him.
"Well you could have maybe been a bit more direct. The way you said it make me worry that you were going to tell or something..."
Laughing lightly as she held her hand over her heart in relief, Misaka then smiled before looking over her shoulder as she heard a small voice coming from within her bag.
"Now is it ok for me to talk?"
"Just hold on a little longer ok?"
Looking around to make sure no one was looking, she opened her bag slightly to allow the small digimon to look out from his hiding place.
"So Tyren...What brings you out here? I don't think I've seen you at school?"

While Kyle may not have had much experience with other children his own age in the recent past, he had to say that this one was definitely interesting. After all, the only other children he really had any interactions with were other children within the A.I.R. organization or the dark digidestined that were tainted with the dark spores. Being home schooled by his father didn't seem to have helped much with his social interactions much either, but he was determined to learn more about the digidestined. Now that he had found a school with at least one of them, he was determined to worm his way in for more research.
"My apologies, this is all kind of new to me." he said, not really meaning digimon in general, just keeping them hidden in the real world and how to talk to normal children. "You've actually just answered your own question in a way." he continued once she asked him what he was doing there. "You see, I've been home schooled up to this point. I've just been looking around for a school in the area where I can learn things other than what my tutor can teach me."
He wasn't intending to be cryptic with the way he was trying to describe his dilemma, but he still didn't want to mention the digimon while still on the school's grounds. "I suppose it would be easier to talk if there was a place that wasn't as heavily populated as this particular area." he said more to himself as he glanced around at the unfamiliar grounds wondering where they could talk without feeling like a creeper. He didn't want to suddenly invite her to a private spot - he did know enough not to do that, especially with a girl. The last time he had done that the girl had run away from him screaming something about a pervert. 3 paragraphs

There were many places within the surrounding area that they could talk. But having a secure conversation would be very difficult. Many of the places Misaka was aware of always had someone in it. Either they were talking, playing games, or making out. The fact that they were so well hidden made them that much more popular. Of course, the young girl did have a good place in mind that no one would be. The teen came upon it while running around for soccer practice.
"I know a spot..Come on!"
Taking his hand gently, Misaka began to lead him through the back of the school, passing by a few pinic benches and even some unused equipment for the baseball team. From there the young girl continued on across the soccer field towards a small shed.
"No one usually come here in til spring, and those that do only just pass through and disappear. So far, the only ones that know that it's unlocked are myself and a few friends of mine. It should be safe to talk here...."
Arriving at the mid-sized shed covered in chipped blue paint, Misaka released her grip over Tyren's hand before opening the door and nodding towards him with a grin.
"After you.."

FINALLY! Kyle didn't know how much longer he could have kept his cool if this girl didn't finally understand the hints that the had been throwing at her from the start. Honestly, she seemed a bit dull to him, and he didn't know whether to blame it on her being a digidestined or being a public school kid. He had never been to a public school before, so perhaps there was the possibility that they all learned at a slower pace than he did. Thinking on this possibility and the obvious gap of intelligence, the boy barely even noticed being led along by the hand. He really only looked up and took notice when she opened the door to a small shed in the back of the school.
With a quick shrug, he walked inside just as she had offered. It was pretty dark inside, but his eyes got adjusted fairly easily as he looked around before settling on a perch of vaulting cubes. He honestly had no idea what they were, just that they were a flat surface to sit on and that they were pretty high, not to mention sturdy.
"So, what kind of 'mon is your partner?" he asked, completely oblivious to the fact that real digidestined usually referred to their digimon partners as friends. He really was fairly new to the whole digimon thing, at least from her point of view. All he knew about them was they lived in the digital world and could digivolve. He was in the midst of studying the effects of the darkness that dwelled in the digital world, but he wanted to be able to study what would be considered the opposite, or the 'light' as some tended to refer to it.
He just figured that since he was able to study the darkness through the dark digidestined that were infected with the dark spores, he might be able to study that light from a normal digidestined. After all, what he did know for sure about the dark spores was that they were attached to the darkness in the digital world and gave the dark digidestined a bit of a warped power. He was just really curious as to what a child's power would have been without the dark spores. Would they have been weaker? Would they have been stronger? Would they have even changed at all? 4 paragraphs

Misaka could barely get her answer out before DemiVeemon popped his head from out her bag after she had closed the door to the shed behind her. Blinking as the small digimon giggled, the young girl patted his head as she settled herself down on a hurdle nestled between two mats. Setting her bag upon the ground, the teen pulled the monster from it's confines, letting it rest upon her lap.
"I guess he's a dragon..But I'm not completely sure. All he said was that his name was DemiVeemon..."
Smiling as she looked down towards the creature, the digimon grinned up at her as he then rested his gaze upon Tyern. There was something strange about this human, but he wasn't sure what. But as long as Misa was ok with him, that was all that mattered. Besides, no one would want to hurt her, the girl was too nice.
"What about you? Where's your digimon partner?"
Tilting her head to the side, Misaka blinked as she waited for a response from her new friend. She hadn't thought about asking before, mostly because they were in such an open place. Though here seemed like a better place to bring it up. Tyern had seen her partner, so maybe it would be far to know where his was. Though even if he didn't, that was ok. He would likely have his reasons. Yet maybe he could still answer some questions for her.

Kyle hadn't studied the different types of digimon just yet, but he recalled his father going over the main types of digimon, and dragon seemed to ring a bell. Just to make sure, he began to look a bit more closely at the little digimon, taking in it's blue skin, the odd ears and his general shape. "Demiveemon huh?" he asked in a slightly curious tone. "In-training form right? Since they can go multiple directions with their digivolutions they're pretty hard to pin down in this form. What's his rookie form?" he asked another question, his curiosity getting the better of him. He wasn't used to being around others his own age, especially those who knew digimon on a more personal level.
Just as he was asking about her digimon, she asked him about his. "Ah, Gabumon's still in the digital world." he admitted a bit sheepishly, trying his best to come off as innocent as he could. "I don't exactly have a place to hide him, and I haven't seen his in-training form so I'm a bit stuck. How exactly do you get him to be this small?" yet another question so close to the other two.
Honestly, the boy didn't know when to stop asking. If there was something he wanted to know, he would normally try to figure it out on his own. With these, however, he was pretty much forced to ask since he hadn't figured them out on his own just yet. He had so many more questions spinning around in his head, but he was trying his best not to bombard her with question after question. This was already proving to be quite difficult - so much so that he wondered how he was going to handle this if it went on much longer. 4 paragraphs

Misaka giggled as she then held out her hand as though to calm him down. Consider how he appeared around her age, it was odd having to put up such a signal as though her were younger. But it just seemed like he was bombarding her with question after question. Some of them were beyond her to even get an answer. In truth, Misaka was hoping that he would be able to answer some of her own questions.
"One question at a time please, I'm only one person..."
Smiling as she crossed her legs while seated on the hurdle, Misaka tilted her head to the side as she began to state her answers.
"His rookie form is Veemon. I've only seen it once, but it was similar to how he looks now. I can't even explain why he reverted back, I guess maybe the change doesn't work well here as it does in his world"
DemiVeemon nodded to show his support of her answer, nestling himself closer to his partner before slowly dozing off to sleep.
"I have no idea how I've kept him hidden for so long. But you probably have a better idea than I do. I don't even know how to access the Digital World. Though I'm guessing it have something to do with those devices...right?"
