Night... Time to sleep for some, a brand new day for others. Time of the day when light of the sun disappears quite completely, and only the shine of the moon and stars able to guide a lost and weary traveler. A time when forests catch a second breath of life, as all the night creatures wake up to go around their business. A beautiful time of the day... Beautiful and sinister at the same time. For who knows what lurks, covered by that darkness.
But in the misty forest it was ... well, different. Quiet, creepy. No cricket, no sound anywhere. Not even wind. As if like nothing was alive within that place. And ... well, this was true. Almost. The mist surrounding the area was truly sinister at night. You couldn't see anything, any light from the sky was blocked by that veil, and there was a good chance of bumping into a tree. But ... there were other lights... And sounds...
Sounds of the firewood burning. Somewhere close. And there, there was a light seen among the trees! A bleak one, but obvious in all this darkness. And a shadow sitting near it. Somebody was there! Or was this just a mirage of the creepy shadowy mist? Well ... not really... It was a person...
... The renamon spent the whole day wandering through this maze of trees in an attempt to find some sort of a village hidden within the veil. She was told it was there, and ... she had a feeling she had been here before... Long time ago. She had a dream of the mist, and went into the mist to follow it. A simple course of action, but she had no other leads to follow. A wild goose chase you say? ... Correct. But she had no other choice...
Lost, the fox needed a break from all this walking... And maybe some sleep. But sleeping she was afraid of, at least here. It was quiet... Too quiet for her. So she kept herself awake, just sitting in front of the small fire, and staring into the black void that surrounded her, in a vain hope to see anything. Cautious and alert.
But she could keep up like this only for so long. Eventually, the renamon had to succumb to overall tiredness. It was an unnoticeable process. Eyes become heavier and heavier, blinking takes more time as eyes do not want to open up, and like this ... eventually ... you'll go asleep. Which is exactly what happened.
- Zzzzz... - the renamon snored quietly as she slept, still in sitting position, as if she were awake, without a care in the world. Plus, really, there was nobody else here aside from her. Right? Right?

Dressed in his usual black tank top and black pants, Ryusuke was thankful once again that his dad wasn't home all that often and that by extension he would never be required to explain what the struggling, incoherantly babbling mass wrapped up in his hoodie was, Ryusuke opened the door to his room and strode in, wary of the powered on lap top on the desk on the far side of the room. From what he'd had explained to him earlier it'd either been a fluke or something else along those lines that had caused him to be sucked through the vending machine only an hour or two before, but then again he had no desire to tempt fate. Closing the door behind him with his foot, Ryusuke strode over to the bed and deposited the moving mass onto it before pulling the small black and red device from before out of his pocket. While he didn't exactly have any reason to believe any answers he got from the tan and purple creature - Hopmon, it had called itself - that had followed him through to his world, the thing seemed to want to please him enough that it was worth at least trying what it had told him to do. If anything it would at least allow him to bring the thing back to its world and leave the whole mess behind him and get back to his normal life, and Hopmon back to his.
Picking up the hoodie wrapped creature from his bed, Ryusuke tried to remember what the thing had told him about getting back to what it had called the "digital world". Something about holding what it and the others had called a "digivice" up to a screen? Surely it had to be more complicated than that, but as Ryusuke looked at the thing it seemed to be dead - not so much as a spark of activity from it.
What the hell.
Tensing slightly as he walked over the his lap top and well aware that he might've well been insane for even considering what he was about to do after his last brief jaunt that had almost ended with him being decapitated, Ryusuke brought his arm up to hold the digivice up between himself and the computer screen, Hopmon suddenly ceasing to struggle as a flash of white light seemed to surge forth from the computer screen and envelope Ryusuke, the teen's eyes closing shut at the sudden increase in light. When he opened them again he was no longer standing in his room, but rather a forest as he had been before, but with a few key differences. Unlike the previous one, this was not a rainforest despite the thick fog, and like in the real world he'd just left it was now night.
"Ah, it's good to be back. Mind you we only left about an hour or so ago." Hopmon said, slipping free of Ryusuke's arm without the hoodie in place to restrain him anymore. "Why'd we come back, though? There's nothing out here."
"Correction, you're back, I'm not staying." Ryusuke said, noting once again with some irritation that his appearance had changed just as it had before. While the clothing was comfortable and the black clothing was practical, Ryusuke still didn't understand the point of the red longcoat that came with it all. Turning around to see the small tv he'd seemingly emerged from on the ground several feet behind him, Ryusuke had only taken a single step forward before he felt extra weight on his leg. Stopping and glancing down, the teen immediately saw the cause of it - Hopmon, clearly understanding that Ryusuke intended to leave him there, had attached himself to his left leg, a feat Ryusuke still didn't comprehend as possible given the creature's apparent lack of arms.

Have you ever stayed in a room where there are no sounds at all? Motionless? So quiet you cannot even hear your breathing? Within such a place even smallest of sounds become amplified, and you can listed to your MP3 player when it is set on volume: 01? Well, the forest was like such a place. Eerily quiet. And any sound made there was amplified ten-fold.
Which was why the sleeping renamon's ear twitched when foreign sounds came about, awaking her from her insecure and cautious sleep. Sounds... like something warping. She did not know what caused them, yet those were ... familiar somehow. Then voices... and footsteps! Someone else was here! Were they friendly? Or were they bad people to run away from? She did not know. Or maybe they needed help? She had to see!
Silently, like a ghost, her image loomed through the trees, her silvery fur making her seem like some sort of ghost in the darkness, as she found her way towards the source of the sound. Peering out of the tree, her blue eyes gazed upon the source of disturbance and ... widened beyond proportion. She spotted a small digimon, and a creature which she never saw before, and yet knew who he was and knew such were to be feared...
- ... Human! - a muffled exclamation came as the fox turned around, wishing to leave and run away just as quietly as she came here, but ... not so lucky this time. Her leg stepped upon a branch hidden from her sight in the darkness, making it crack loudly and slipping on it with an audible bang.
Oh crap...

"Get off of my leg!" Ryusuke said, raising said leg to stand on his right and waving the flesh and mechanical apendage in an attempt to shake Hopmon off of it. Ryusuke had to admit, if the thing did openly display any particular trait, it was tenacity - something he could appreciate and even would've admired, had it not been at complete odds with what he wanted. Arms splayed out to his sides for balance, Ryusuke increased the fervor with which he was shaking his leg to the point where he nearly fell over, stumbling on his right leg for a moment before lowering his left to touch the ground again, regaining his balance. Staring down at the smaller creature for several moments in frustration, Ryusuke was preparing to bend down and pull the creature off with his hands when he heard an audible snap in the nearby trees, the sound seeming much louder than it should have been in the fog filled quiet.
Snapping up right and momentarily forgetting Hopmon, much to the smaller digimon's relief, Ryusuke's arms came up in a guard stance out of instinct as his gold colored eyes scanned the trees, expecting to see a much larger creature similar to the insect that had attacked him the last time he'd visited the digital world. Discarding that thought after an utter lack of movement for a few moments, Ryusuke's brows tightened in a mixture of confusion and caution, although to the casual observer that wasn't familiar with Ryusuke it could very well have appeared to be passive hostility.
"Off of my leg. Now. We have company and I won't be able to run very well with you on it." Ryusuke said softly, well aware that whatever it was in the woods may have well been able to hear him but not particularly caring. He needed Hopmon off of him there and then, if only so he could be able to run if needed, nevermind return home without him.
"That's exactly why I'm not going to let go! We're supposed to be partners, so I'm not just going to let you go off on your own!" Hopmon replied, voice muffled but clearly understandable. Gritting his teeth in impatience and frustration, Ryusuke didn't move as he kept watching the trees.

The renamon was pretty sure that she was spotted a dozen times over after her epic trip. For a few moments she played dead, as if that would help, before carefully standing up from the ground, hiding behind that tree again. Making absolutely no sound, not even breathing, her back pressed against the bark, she listened to somewhat ... strange conversation between the human and the digimon.
Why did the smaller digimon insist so hard on staying with the human? Didn't it know that humans were ... probably bad? The renamon then asked herself why she was so sure about it, but couldn't formulate any coherent answer. It was just a gut feeling, that told her: "Stay away from humans, as far away as possible. They are cruel, and they would only harm you." She did not know where she got those words in her head either...
It did not make much sense to here, but after the voices went quiet, she stilled for a bit more. Did they leave? Could be, or they could be waiting for her to come out... Carefully, and slowly, she peered out from her cover to look who it was...
And her widened eyes met the eyes of the human boy, making her freeze still for a little while. She saw him, and he most likely saw her too. Her gaze dodged from left to right as she slowly was beginning to panic. The scary human was just over there, his red ominous coat just thrashing in the wind. Or... he would have looked dangerous ... if he weren't so small. Seriously, the kid was just ... short, and being short did not boost the intimidating factor. The fox digimon was probably taller than him by one foot at least. Realizing that he had been staring at her all this time, the renamon only uttered in confusion:
- Um... hello...

After having looked over the trees behind him and to his left and right and still having seen nothing, Ryusuke was beginning to wonder if the sound hadn't simply been caused by the wind as evidenced by the gust that briefly pulled at his coat. It'd certainly make sense for him to be somewhat paranoid after his last encounter, but it was less that and more out of instinct from his classes and club practices that had made him take the defensive stance he was now in. If anything, he felt strangely at home in the forest now that he actually knew where he was, and the elusive feeling wasn't one that he could consciously identify the first time he'd been in the digital world. None of it really made sense, but the feeling was there just the same. Cautious expression still on his face, Ryusuke began lowering his arms to his sides again and stepping out of the stance to stand upright before beginning to look down again in an attempt to figure out a way to dislodge Hopmon from his leg. It was in the act of doing so, however, that a glint from the trees caught his eye, drawing his attention until he realized a moment later that he was looking at the eyes of another digimon.
Ryusuke was immediately tempted to step back into the defensive position he'd just stepped out of a moment earlier until he realized that the face was familiar, the images of the day's earlier fight coming to mind a moment later as he placed when and where he'd seen it, his eyes widening slightly in both surprise and tentative recognition. It was the same digimon that had arrived to the fight with his cousin, or at least he thought it was - he couldn't be completely certain in the night time darkness, but at the very least it appeared to be the same digimon, and given the assistance it had rendered earlier that was enough for him not to bolt in the opposite direction.
"Uhhhh...... hi?" Ryusuke said after a moment of awkward silence, still surprised to see a familiar face so soon. Hopmon, remaining completely oblivious and still attached to the mechanical portion of Ryusuke's left leg, was momentarily forgotten.

More awkward moments passed as the two stared at each other without saying anything else. The renamon, just like the boy, did not know what to say. But her reasons were more than that. The human ... he did not sound evil, for now, though the urge of running away like hell still existed. That, and she was afraid to say anything else. She knew it would end up in an epic failure anyhow, but still...
Very cautiously, the fox stepped into the "light", a more lit up part, if it could even be called this way, a small clearing, if you will. Then the boy would be able to see that this renamon was not quite like the one he knew - this one was of silver color, her body covered with multiple violet lines, one could figure out what they were if come closer. But the stance was probably different too - this one's was ... rather cowardly, she was ready to run away at any moment. Cautiously stepping up front, the digimon forced a few words out of herself ... as much as she was able to say...
- I ... sorry... campfire... noise... awaken... go see... no disturb... no spying... apologize ... muchly... ugh... - she said a bundle of words barely connected one to another, before sighing out in frustration. She did not say it well enough, did she? She was plenty sure the human did not understand a thing she tried to convey, did he?

As the other digimon stepped into the slightly more well lit clearing that Ryusuke was standing in he immediately saw that it was not the one he knew - what he'd mistaken for the darkness was completely different coloration, silver rather than the bright yellow of Hanako's partner, and the creature's body was covered with what appeared to be scars. Normally the scars would have been enough to set off multiple warnings in Ryusuke's head until he noticed that the creature's stance was not at all confrontational, or even confident for that matter - if anything it looked ready to bolt at the slightest sign of danger, much as he had been moments ago. Those scars were not ones gained through combat, or at least not as far as Ryusuke could tell - this creature had either been attacked and unable to defend itself or escape, or even worse possibly tortured, a distinct possibility given the extent of the scars and the fact that they didn't seem to inhibit movement - they injuries were given either by a poorly experienced attacker or by someone who knew how to inflict pain without causing permanent damage. It was at times like this that Ryusuke did not like the fact that his mind was as perceptive as it was - he did not like the implications that came from what he saw, and did not want to think about them even if they did offer understanding.
Or at least he initially thought so, until the creature spoke in what Ryusuke tentatively recognized as a female tone of voice. Obviously that scar on her head had done a bit more damage than intended if she had been the victim of torture - while she was clearly just as intelligent as all of the other digimon he'd met up to that point, well, save for the bug that had attacked him, her speech was more indicative of brain trauma rather than a lack of intelligence. Still, it made dealing with her much, much easier since he at least had a general idea of what to expect.
"No, it's fine. If there's one thing I've learned after only being here once it's that you can never be too cautious." Ryusuke said, voice calm despite the look of slight surprise that remained on his face - at least until he remembered that he had another smaller creature the size of his head attached to his leg. Ryusuke's expression shifting to one of frustration, he squated down and placed both hands on either side of Hopmon, teeth bared in exertion as he struggled to pry the digimon off of his leg with only a small degree of success, loosening Hopmon's hold on him but failing to remove the digimon.

Few more moments have passed after the reluctant and somewhat awkwardly-sounding conversation between the two continued. Strangely enough, the human did not even bat an eye-lash on her rather broken proposition ... hell, it was not possible to even tell it was a proposition, more like a conglomerate of words loosely bound one to another. The fact he did not actually managed to calm the renamon down a little bit - a bad human would have insulted her immediately, right?
Cautiously, she made a few steps forward towards the boy, still ready to run in case of anything. Yes, cautious. He noticed it too, did he not? He understood. Being cautious was very important here, in the digital world - Babamon told her so before the fox went on her journey - to be careful around people, especially bad-looking people. Because they can do mean things to you.
- Too ... cautious... yes. Careful! - she nodded quickly in affirmation, looking at the boy again... And then she noticed a digimon clutching to his foot. The sudden realization that it was there all this time and she forgot about its existence made her take a step back in a bit of fright, but that soon passed, as she noticed how tiny and defenseless it was, even when compared to her. He couldn't harm her! She hoped...
And she simply stood there once the boy tried getting the clingy digimon off his leg, without much success. The renamon's gaze suddenly became worried. If this digimon would annoy the human enough, he could become violent! And that can't be good, no, that won't be good at all. The digimon needed to let go, and let go now! She thought she could help with this one...
- Allow ... me... - the fox approached, kneeling on the ground, looking at the digimon whose grip was so tenacious. A hopmon, it was. She never saw one, but she somehow knew the name. Well, her memory was not completely blank when she was found, guess some little things like this one remained here. But there was more to it than that. Reaching with her hand slowly, her fingers found two spots under those small wing-things of his, and gently pushed unto them. If she remembered correctly, those were pressure points that would easily and painlessly make the small critter let go. How did she know that? Who knows, it was more on ... an impulse... Lifting her head up, the fox asked in her broken speech once more:
- Forest ... lost? Or ... no way? No... wrong. Know ... way?

Ryusuke was glad that the other digimon standing in the clearing had at least agreed with him on that point, and the fact that - he was guessing it was a she - felt that caution was necessary was enough to convince him that she wouldn't attack or otherwise cause him trouble, allowing him to divert more of his attention to attempting to pry off the ridiculously strong creature from his left shin. Where did it get all of that strength for something so small? The thing was only the size of his head, and while it didn't seem to be much stronger than he was due to his partially successful efforts that still made Hopmon much stronger than most human adults - if Ryusuke hadn't trained his body both to keep up with his heavier prosthetics as well as the MA club he doubted he would've been able to even cause Hopmon to budge from where he was.
"This - isn't - funny - you - little - parasite." Ryusuke said, grunting out each word through clenched teeth and in between each tug he gave to the teardrop shaped creature, refusing to concede defeat to the thing as it made a noise of indignation at the word "parasite". So it was stubborn - big deal. Ryusuke could be just as unyielding if he felt like it, and felt like it he certainly did. While it might've been slightly unreasonable, even in his mind, he had little else to associate Hopmon with beyond trouble - the giant bug when followed by the rather painful smack to the side of the head when they first met, the problems he knew he'd have explaining the thing's presence to anyone else, and now this. While his views might've been a bit biased, he had his own problems already and didn't need a bunch more thrown in on top of them. As for the bit about being partners, Ryusuke had no idea what Hopmon had been babbling on about - he certainly hadn't agreed to any such partnership, and having it seemingly shoved on him without his consent made him want to rebel against it even more.
Ryusuke was preparing to try and wedge his right arm underneath Hopmon, between the purple digimon and his left leg, when he noticed that the other one had moved, cautiously approaching Ryusuke and Hopmon as she offered to help, with Hopmon immediately letting out a muffled sound that was an obvious "NO!" as she did so. Ryusuke, however, was past the point of frustration and willing to do nearly anything to get rid of Hopmon by that point.
"Have at it. And no, I know exactly how to get back where I was, I just came here to drop him off. He followed me back home, something about a partnership or something or other. All I know is that I've never seen him before this afternoon and I never agreed to anything." He said, releasing his hold on Hopmon and flopping onto his back from his squat to give the other digimon access to his left shin and the creature attached to it. As Ryusuke stared up into the grey nothingness that was the sky, Hopmon immediately realized what Renamon was attempting the moment he felt her touch him, and shifted his hold and position on Ryusuke's leg to deny Renamon easy access to the pressure points she was attempting to press.

- ... Stubborn ... bad. Good hopmon ... no stubborn. Good hopmon ... let go. - the renamon groaned a tad bit as she was just about to reach for the areas she needed access to, when the little critter shifted and hid itself from her reach, thinking that would be stopping her. Not by a very large margin though. She was, arguably, stronger than the human, and would be able to simply pull him off, but ... that would hurt the poor thing, wouldn't it? She did not want to hurt anybody...
But what the boy said as she was squabbling with the clingy digimon below managed to distract her a bit. Partnership... That rang a bell, somehow, but she, again, failed to remember what exactly it meant. She knew the meaning of the word, but something told her that it was more than what she remembered from the dictionary. Scratching her head, she replied:
- Partner ... ship... Heard... think I... No, I think. Do not remember ... much. Help ... cannot. Sorry... Explain? - another painful proposition came out with much effort - all this thinking on words was making her a bit dizzy - thinking too much always gave her a headache before. Ceasing to think for a little while, she focused on the digimon again. Pressing him down with her hand to keep it static and stop moving, she wedged her finger to reach for that spot again, and pressed on it, resistance annoying. Lifting her ehad again, she asked the boy:
- Home ... where? Away? Far? - she almost sounded hopeful when she said the word "far", and there was a reason for it. The further it was from this place, the better...

As the digimon working on his..... problem.... spoke again, Ryusuke's head came up off of the ground to look at her, somewhat confused but not by her broken speech. No, more than anything it was the fact that she seemed somewhat familiar with the concept, or at least that she thought she knew something of it that caught his attention. Unfortunately, what ever had happened to give her the scar on her head and difficulty speaking also seemed to have caused something akin to retrograde amnesia, which while solvable usually took either time for the brain to heal or the right trigger for the memories, and both scenarios required for him to stick around, something he did not plan on doing.
Ryusuke's mind came back to the present as he felt pressure on the leg that Hopmon was attached to, seeing that Renamon had pressed down on the smaller digimon to immobilize it as she attempted something he hadn't. Figuring he may as well make it easier for her, Ryusuke subtly applied pressure from his end as well, holding his leg in place and preventing it from moving. Hopmon, helpless to do anything about Renamon's actions, simply sat in place, fins quickly waving in panic before he was dislodged from the prosthetic leg. Ryusuke, not missing a beat, immediately pulled his leg back to prevent Hopmon from reasserting his hold on him, leaping to his feet roughly half a meter away. Hopmon, not to be dissuaded, decided to try a new tactic, moving to position himself between Ryusuke and the odd little television on the ground that led back to Ryusuke's world.
"I told you, I never agreed to any of this! Why are you so damn persistant about it?" Ryusuke said as he turned to face Hopmon, shifting slightly to the side only to have the digimon match his motion.
"We're supposed to be partners, that's all there is to it!" Hopmon replied, although in Ryusuke's opinion he was clearly at a loss to explain the concept in more comprehensive terms himself. "You have the digivice, that should be proof enough!" Hopmon added, referring to the small black and red device that Ryusuke suddenly realized had moved from his pocket back in his world onto its current place on his belt.

The renamon, after she finally managed to get the stubborn little thing off the boy's leg, unfortunately, failed to hold him in one place, the critter slipped through her hands on his strange and mishievous crusade to keep the boy here, while the reasoning alluded the fox as much as it did the human. She was not dim, she had the capabilities to logical thought, but so far the only reason the hopmon boasted was "Just because!" That was not fair... At all...
Moving forward silently, she stood beside the boy as she listened to their little tirade. She, again, kept silent for some time. Not that she did not have anything to say, she did! But she needed time to think up what she was going to say, it was a bit time-consuming and tedious process for her... But she would try adding a bit of reason to this conversation.
And then her gaze fell upon the digivice. The supposed "proof" of them being partners. This thingamajig was not familiar to her. Not even subconsciously. Looked like a videogame to her. But the question was ... why did the small digimon want to keep another one here so badly? Was it just lonely? Could be, there were times when the renamon longed for company, however, her desire never was that bad.
- So selfish ... small ... tiny digimon... why? Human ... here not... Go away... Friends... family... But no... keep here... you... Why? - she asked. Even though it was severely broken, her intonation sounded kind enough, as well as her stare. Renamons were known for having piercing blue eyes. This one failed in that department - she never was intimidating, even when she wanted to. Lending her hand towards the boisterous digimon a bit, she added:
- Alone? Friend ... need? Can be ... I?

While Ryusuke did not particularly mind the Renamon's presence if only because she seemed to respect personal space, he was tempted once again to shift to the side in another attempt to find a path past Hopmon to the television and back to his world, but realized that there wasn't much point unless he could either trick or convince the creature into letting him go. The latter was obviously not going to happen, and neither was the former as long as Hopmon knew that the television was Ryusuke's only way back home, and he wasn't about to risk wandering off into the fog filled woods. The digimon standing next to him, however, seemed to think reasoning with him might work - Ryusuke, however, simply kept watching Hopmon, waiting for some opportunity to slip past him long enough to reach the television.
"No, it's not for me! I'd be lying if I said I didn't like it, but it wasn't my idea!" Hopmon said, clearly flustered by Renamon's accusation that he was being selfish. "If anything this should've happened sooner! I don't understand why it took so long, but we were picked to be partners ever since -" Hopmon went on, only shutting his mouth once he realized he'd probably said too much - a double edged sword, as luck would've had it. While Ryusuke's attention was slightly drawn by what Hopmon had divulged, it wasn't enough to warrant bringing him back with him, nor did it seem to concern him beyond what someone else had arbitrarily decided what should be. If anything Ryusuke wanted to know who that someone was given how much - or little - they knew about him, but the only thing on his mind was the fact that he was losing sleep over this.

The renamon listened to the explanations, not hiding the amazed expression on her face. The small digimon's answers ... they only rose more questions than provided answers. The fox's inquisitive mind was always restless when fed not enough information - there were too many things not clear for her to simply let another one slide without an explanation. She did not even suspect the digimon could be lying, and fortunately for her, at the moment he really was telling the truth. If only half-truth... It seemed like he really did not want to say some crucial points in his whole theory.
- Idea ... your not? - she asked curiously, approaching the tiny digimon, kneeling down again to be on the same level with him, looking at him with interest. - Not ... for you? Who? Who ... needs? Who ... picks? More ... tell. Please? - she asked for more details. If anything, she would be the second of the two who were interested to know more about this ... partnership thing. If only to recall anything she may have known before, and even then... there was still the issue.
- Who ... chose... not asking ... the boy. He opinion ... desire .... will ... matter not. Not right ... that is... Choice ... one have ... should... - it was a rather long thought to convey into words, her speech was failing so hard she couldn't stand it. But at least none of the two made fun of her so far, so she would speak up what she thought... But this inability was ... demeaning. She wanted her speech back, instead of painstakingly uttering badly-connected words. She hoped they understood what she tried to convey - that the boy cannot be forced to do something he doesn't like. Nobody liked being forced. The renamon did not like it too.
Standing up, she towered upon the Hopmon again, her somewhat confused stare gaining some focus as she looked upon the smaller digimon, showing some determination, and soon after remembering the right words, added:
- Explain ... or let ... pass.
