Ferris wheels.
If there was anything that made her feel at home in Japan it was the Daikanransha ferris wheel. It reminded her of the times her Father took her to ride the one at the county fair and the only ride he'd let her on. It became the only thing she wanted to ride, anyway, after her father would tell her over dramatized stories about how all the carnies were criminals serving their time in a more creative fashion. But she felt safe here even at three-hundred feet in the air in the brisk chill of night. It did make it easier on her having Shaomon in the cart with her, perched on the side with his head sticking out slightly to feel the wind against his face.
August couldn't help but smile at the in-training digimon and leaned forward to level with him. "Say, Shaomon?" she spoke softly to her partner, who had turned attentively in her direction with a smile. That was all the indication she needed to know that he had just given her his full attention. "Does your world have a big ferris wheel like this one?"
In all honesty, the most interesting she found about digimon was this world they were always going on about. She also had taken notice that Shaomon was beginning to feel homesick. He didn't have to tell her – the way he stared off blankly in the distance was a blatant giveaway. But August hadn't even considered trying to go there yet, she knew that it would not only be dangerous but she had no idea how a DIGITAL WORLD worked! Would she be trapped in a computer forever? It was probably the only thing she ever put enough thought into to be hesitant about it all.
While August had been absently thinking about this Shaomon sat like the canine he was with a pleasant little smile. "There is a continent known as SERVER that has structures similar to that of an amusement park. There is a rotating wheel much like this one, however it is not as large – this one is afraid."
August listened to her partner with a musing little smile, resting her hands against her cheeks and her elbows in her lap as she began to daydream. "It sounds really cool..." she sighed in thought, crossing her legs. "I'd totally go there if I wasn't so..."
She had to stop herself before admitting to Shaomon she had actualy been SCARED. Like she would EVER do that to anyone. Shaomon was about to ask what she was going to say until August suddenly perked with a little gasp, "Oh crap! We're almost at the bottom. Here, c'mere and make room in case someone decides to sit with us."
And with that she removed her backpack from under her seat and held it open for Shaomon to hop into. He didn't seem all that pleased about it after waddling over. "Why is it that this one must conceal himself from the humans in such a degrading manner? It has never bothered August before."
While closing the drawstring she was sure to leave a little hole open enough for him to breathe, smiling weakly down at him. "I know but you decided to open your big mouth in front of that fat lady earlier and she thought you were a talking dog! I don't want to spend half an hour in the air with someone trying to explain to them how advanced stuffed animals have come along!"
And soon the cart was at the bottom of the ferris wheel, the assistant opening the door for whoever wanted a ride next.

Mason hated heights.
There was no particular traumatic reason or incident to blame for it, he just didn't like the thought of being higher than people were meant to be. Sometimes, he would even begin to feel unease on the higher stories of a building, particularly around windows. His mind always drifted to the horrific thought of what would happen if he were to fall to the ground... wondering if he would die instantly upon impact or stick around long enough to hear his bones snap.
...Okay, this definitely wasn't the right time be be thinking about this.
Mason's neck craned back almost to the point of aching as he examined the monstrous ferris wheel before him. It seemed sturdy enough... though, the occasional sounds of some metallic screech nearly made him flinch. As if he suddenly expected the enormous ride to tip over onto it's side and crush everything beneath it. Of course, it stayed right where it was the whole time Mason was in the line and he attempted to occupy his mind with any other thought as he waited. ...Like, how he ended up standing in line for this deathtrap to begin with.
This was the first time Mason had brought Salamon along with him during one of his nighttime outings and he was beginning to regret it already. He had just gone out to get groceries, but Salamon somehow convinced him to wander off course. Before he knew it, he was wandering around in much busier areas than he found comfortable, the small puppy digimon wrapped in his arms. He didn't put much thought into concealing her, somewhat annoyed as several people came up to fawn over and question him about the cute little puppy in his arms.
Mason ended up telling them some nonsense, like she had some disfiguring and highly contagious form of mange, along with he fact that it was a bad idea to pet her because she liked to bite strangers. It really didn't even make sense, but no one seemed to question it, most likely because of the entirely serious look Mason wore as he said it. Salamon thought both ideas were somewhat ridiculous for someone to actually consider, but Mason was somewhat amused at the almost horrified looks on passerby's faces... and for once he was beginning to enjoy himself.
That's when the ferris wheel came into view. Salamon insisted Mason owed her for being portraying as some soon-to-be ugly dog that snapped at people and before he could really defend himself he was standing in line. ...Had he always this easy to persuade? He wasn't sure, as this was the first real time he'd actually interacted with anyone for so long...even if it had only been a few weeks. Part of him felt like he was doing something wrong by giving into the small creature so easily, but he reassured himself it would pay off in the end. He had his own reason for this partnership after all, but he kept them to himself.
"I believe you're falling behind, love." Salamon glanced up at Mason as she spoke, noting he was staring rather distantly at nothing in particular. He blinked at the digimon's voice, realizing the line had gone ahead without him and the people behind them were starting to get irritable. Almost slowly, he went to close the gap he had created, starting to think of something as they were nearly to the front...
"...I doubt dogs are allow on this," Mason said lowly, making sure his voice was unheard by everyone except Salamon. She giggled softly, lids making upward curves as she closed her eyes and smiled, "Aww, you're not trying to get out of this, are you?~"
Mason blinked at what she was implying, remaining silent for a moment as they walked up and absently watching as the people in front of them were helped into a cart by an attendant. "Just act like a toy or something," Mason instructed blankly after a moment, eyes meeting the attendant's when they turned to see who would be boarding next. The person glanced down at Salamon a moment, though said nothing of her, turning back as the next cart stopped at its station.
Mason stepped up as the door was opened for him to get inside...immediately disheartened by the fact that someone else was already sitting in the cart. He faintly hoped they would be getting out, stepping inside without a word and sitting across from the other. The door was shut soon after and he visibly slumped down some as he realized the girl would be riding with him. Salamon stayed limp as she had been when they got in, looking like a pretty little doll sitting in his lap. Mason didn't even consider how odd this might look to someone else, keeping to himself a moment before glancing up at August.
...He didn't mean to...well, he never really meant to...but he ended up staring some, eyes a little wide as he examined her. It might have come off as a bit of a creepy thing to do, but the thought never processed.

August kept her hand hovered over the drawstring of her bag once Mason went to go sit inside. The moment she caught a good look of him alarmed her, and she was suddenly considering getting off the ride. Those red eyes of his struck something inside her, an animal instinct that was telling her to GET THE HELL OUT OF THERE THIS IS NOT NATURAL. However her desire to be a decent human being – one with an open mind and heart – fought away all impulse to run. Instead she just forced a pleasant smile and tucked her hands into her bag to pull out Shaomon and rest him in her lap. She had taken notice of Salamon, and figured that maybe he'd feel less awkward keeping a cute little toy out of she showed that she was into them as all. August was pleased by how thoughtful she was being!...Until she caught him staring at her.
Her heart started to throb some, echoing naggingly in her ears while her limbs tightened and began to quiver. When she tried to greet Mason in that pleasant way she did to most people, it came out sounding like she was sitting on a dryer in the laundromat by how much she was shaking, "Um..."
Shaomon sensed the tenseness of his partner while keeping his gaze locked on Salamon. He knew very well that she was a digimon... a rather well-pampered one at that. The little canine suddenly felt a tad insecure in the presence of such a finely bred digimon. They were both holy types, something that he hadn't seen before in the real world. He would have uttered a 'hello' if he hadn't been scolded by August just a few moments ago for talking too much in public. Instead he just offered her a small, polite smile – not yet noticing that Mason had been staring at August. Finally, August was able to form a coherent sentence. It still came out in the same shaky voice she had earlier but at least she was making an effort! "H-Hi! I li-like your toy! I got one too, see?" she forced a wide smile, holding Shaomon up for him to see. "We've got good taste I guess! M-my name is August...! S-sorry I keep st-stumbling ov..er myself I'm kinda sh-shy..."
Ugh...that was queer. The girl was suddenly struggling to find a way to recover and went to try to speak before he had a chance to reply to her odd inquiry.
"D-d-d-do you speak English? D-..do you... Um... Anata...wa eigo o hanasemasu ka...?" THIS WAS HORRIBLE! She never struggled socially like this before! It was absolutely crippling! August sounded like she was about to burst into her tears due to this rare case of awkward social graces and tried to shake it off. "Wh-what's Nnn..name?"
This display finally caught Shaomon's attention who turned his head to look up at her just barely so that he wouldn't be caught being a living thing, but he couldn't help a soft dog-like whine that involuntarily escaped him.

Mason's gaze only left August for a moment as she pulled Shaomon out from her bag, starting at the 'doll' no longer than a few seconds before his eyes trained themselves back on the girl. It really didn't help that she had started stumbling over her words when she finally spoke, causing him to raise his eyebrows some and watch her somewhat quizzically. He'd never had someone react this way to him before, most of the time they just glanced off to the side and waited for him to look away or told him off. This was a bit more interesting though, taking his focus to her body language a moment, sort of watching how she composed herself before his eyes went back to her face.
Salamon on the other hand, didn't seem all too interested in August's awkwardness, instead much more focused on the digimon in the girl's arms. Finally something interesting. It was bad enough that she had been dragged off to this world in the first place, but being trapped in Mason's house nearly all day and night was starting to bore her. This was the first digimon aside from herself she'd seen in this world and she was glad to finally see something familiar. She noticed the little smile Shaomon had given her, staring at him blankly a moment before returning it with a small one of her own...followed by a quick wink.
Mason's critical gaze seemed to wane some once August was finished speaking, quietly going to sit up even straighter than he had already been and clearing his throat. "Mason." He responded to her question clearly, his voice a tad bit more lively than his dead expression...though not by much. "I can see you don't seem very comfortable. I probably would've just ignored you if you hadn't spoken to me."
There was no hint of aggression in Mason's voice when he spoke, speaking more from his head than his heart. Sure, August was just being friendly, but that didn't mean he had to be friendly back. Though...in a way, this was almost him trying to be friendly. Most of the time he might have just turned and ignored them completely.
...He blinked as he swore he had heard Shaomon make a small noise and glances down at him. Salamon caught the look and took it as an invitation to reveal herself. After all, August had a digimon just like Mason did...so she didn't see any reason to keep herself hidden any longer-
"Don't mind him sweetheart," Salamon made sure her voice was loud and clear, giving both August and Shaomon a little grin, "...this is him trying to be friendly believe it or not."
Mason didn't react much to Salamon speaking, simply looking down at her. Whether he was angry, frustrated, or whatever with his faux partner speaking up...it didn't show.

The moment Mason introduced himself, August was about ready to involuntarily scream how nice his name sounded. She, in fact, would have began listing all her favorite people with the name 'Mason' just to make him feel more comfortable with her. However, this all came to a sudden halt once he continued on with his introduction, causing her eyes to widen in absolute horror. "I can see you don't seem very comfortable. I probably would've just ignored you if you hadn't spoken to me."
"W-WHAT?" August cried out a bit louder at him than she actually should have, trying her best to fight the tears forming in her eyes. She wasn't taking this very well... it was like, ultimate cruel rejection evilness. However Shaomon understood very well what the boy meant and gave a soft little sigh, unable to help a smile at his partner's overreactions. "O-Oh my god I'm so sorry I've totally offended you because I'm totally stupid and I was staring and ... oh my god."
While her lips quivered and her eyes squinted away some tears, another voice made its way into the conversation. "H-Huh?" The girl blinked and glanced down at the talking toy, smile suddenly spreading across her cheeks as she looked relieved to be spoken friendly to... and to be called 'sweetheart'. "O-Oh! I g-g-get it. You're just not very socially graceful! That's okay!"
It was as if nothing had happened. She hadn't freaked out and nearly bursted into tears, only weakly smiling at Mason now with a relieved expression and posture. Shaomon reacted the only way he could think of, which wasn't too far from Salamon's dismissal of her partner's behavior. "This one's partner does not handle awkward social situations well and for that this one apologizes for her." the canine digimon offered a smile to both Mason and Salamon.
August pulled on her sleeve to cover her free hand and wiped away the tiny tears in her eyes. "Oh no..yeah I get a little stressed out when I don't know what to say! I'm sorry I freaked out like that, it real-really is nice to meet you! Sorry!"

"W-WHAT?"
"O-Oh my god I'm so sorry I've totally offended you because I'm totally stupid and I was staring and ... oh my god."
Dear lord, what did he do? Mason found himself just sitting there in silent bewilderment as August seemed to be having some sort of emotional breakdown, blinking slowly and glancing down at Salamon as if the rookie could offer some sort of insight into this girl's behavior. He didn't exactly expect an answer however, glancing back up at the girl after a moment and shifting to sit a bit straighter, as if his posture had started to fall short of flawless. The way he sat himself almost perfectly looked fake in a way, or incredibly tense at the least.
Mason listened quietly as August, then Shaomon, and then August yet again spoke to him, his gaze going from one to the other in a rather uniform way. It took him less than a few moments to respond to her, the tone of his voice hinting at indifference, "You talk a lot more than you should."
"Oh, come on now!" Salamon wiggled her way out of Mason's grip not a moment after he spoke, looking up at him with disapproval. "She's acting like a rather decent young lady, I'd expect the same manners from you." After a moment the roughness of her expression softened and she turned to look at August, giving the young girl a quick smile. "Please ignore him darling, he really is trying to be friendly. Hm... I'm Salamon by the way. We're both please to meet you. The both of you." She gave a small nod to Shaomon at that last part, giving him a thoughtful look.
...hn. Well... Mason definitely didn't approve of that. Being told off by something he bought. He should be the one ordering around Salamon, not vice versa. It nearly irritated him, yet...he didn't speak up, blinking and looking down at his lap a moment. Maybe it was because he felt bad, that Salamon was right. August was being friendly and he was being a jerk more or less. He didn't really see it this way though, having a hard time understanding. As far as he was concerned, he was simply making an observation. An inappropriate one to voice, most likely, but he had never taken such a thought into account before.

It took a while for August to realize that Salamon was, in fact, a digimon. She had been too preoccupied with impressing Mason and trying to make it seem like she wasn't completely out of her mind. But he kept gently pushing her buttons, digging deeper and deeper to her core to show just how uncomfortable and unhappy she actually was when in a situation like this. Her vision blurred with small tears as she kept her eyes on Mason while he continued to criticize her on what she should have/ shouldn't have been doing. WHY WAS THIS GUY SO HARD TO SATISFY?
Shaomon only smiled gratefully towards Salamon who had wriggled from Mason's arms in protest - having the decency to apologize for her partner and explain to August that he wasn't trying to be rude. It made him happy to see that another digimon would stick up for August, especially to their own partners. He, however, understood exactly where Mason was coming from. He may have been a blunt man, but a right man. August was stumbling over herself so much he knew that she hadn't much of a chance in a conversation with someone who thought purely logical - when she was one to rely more on heart than head.
He finally decided to speak up for Mason, trying to not sound like he had been defending the other from Salamon - that would have been rude. Instead, he wanted Mason and August to get along by understanding each other, instead of her being scared to death of him the entire time they'd be stuck on the ferris wheel together. "This one understands this human's intentions. August, do not worry, he means no hostility."
Still having a difficult time believing that Mason wasn't about to reach over and strangle her for saying something stupid, she couldn't manage to listen to Shaomon. Instead she curled up a bit into herself, then pulled her legs up onto the seat so she could hug them accordingly. Something to hold onto and find comfort in as they started their ascension 300 feet into the air. "Oh, I see..." August felt like a kid being tutored on some impossible subject, the kind that said 'Oh I get it now' when they really had no idea what the hell the tutor was going on about.
Of course Shaomon sensed this, smiled, and shook his head. After a few moments of silence she turned to face Mason stubbornly, deciding to dish out some critique of her own. "Well maybe you shouldn't be so blunt with strangers!" she exclaimed, her short-temper shining through. "You could offend someone, you know?" [/sub][/blockquote]
