APPEARANCE.
There isn’t a single feature about Dominic that makes him look anything but relaxed. Comfortable, baggy clothing, a lineless face, and big, brown, tired eyes convey his calm nature. His soft facial features don’t show a single sign of stress: starting from his naturally thin eyebrows to the bottom of his pointed chin. The only thing about him that seems to be obsessively taken care of is his well-combed and styled blonde hair, perfectly parted into three sections that frame his face and rests on the bridge of his rather unremarkable nose. It wouldn’t be inaccurate to say that he’s rather plain when it comes to his appearance, but he does his best to at least look taken care of.
Dominic may not be the most colorful crayon in the box but he attempts to stick out without focusing too much on his physical appearance. He adorns himself in informal clothing like light sweatshirts and snugly-fit jeans. When there’ a party, however, he will dress more extravagantly like collared shirts, slacks, and sometimes scarves or bandanas. Mickey’s been praised for his well-kept, healthy-looking skin that is mostly free from any blemishes or scars due to his compulsive need to wash his face. He hasn’t any distinctive markings or scars on his body, save a tattoo of a rose around his belly button. He doesn’t tell anyone it’s there, however, having been insanely drunk the night he got it.
He barely reaches six feet in height, still only around five foot seven and is sometimes shrimpy compared to men around his age. The boy is insanely thin because of his over-active metabolism, allowing him to eat practically anything he wants without having to worry about gaining weight.
PERSONALITY.
At first glance, Dominic doesn’t appear to have much substance or thought to him at all. If one were to engage in a conversation with him they’d probably quickly label him as a complete idiot -- which isn’t too far from the truth. Dom is extremely blunt, not out of maliciousness but because he seems to be completely oblivious to other’s feelings. It’s not until the person he’s offended either speaks up or goes quiet is when he’ll stop his jokes and then attempts to make it up to them the best he can. On the surface, Dom is incredibly spacey and immersed in his own little world. A lot of the time he can be heard mumbling long strings of sentences to himself about a person or situation right in front of others. When he’s like this he’ll appear completely oblivious to his surroundings – but is in fact quick on his toes while in this state and sensitive to any changes in the environment or mood. Needless to say, there’s more to Dominic than meets the eye.
Contrary to popular belief, there’s a lot going on in Dominic’s head, but not about what you may think. Unlike most men his age he doesn’t concern himself about his future, jobs, or women. No, instead of his future he focuses far more on his past. There is something about his history that piques his interest more than anything, perhaps the reason was that he was adopted. Because he is more interested in the past than the future, it’s no surprise that Dominic ended up being somewhat of a couch potato that’d rather spend his time thinking than getting out into the world and making something of himself.
When Dom gets into it, he can be extremely philosophical and thoughtful. He seems to be convinced that he’s had some kind of past life, saying he’s seen the world through ‘many eyes.’ He talks about having dreams about living as someone else that had felt too real to him to be fake. While it can be debated whether or not what he says has any truth, he describes scenes with incredible detail – hinting at either a brain disorder or a very vivid imagination. He’ll go on and talk about the dreams he’s had to complete strangers in hopes he’d get some kind of answers about what they mean. He mostly talks about his views on a creator and ‘goodness’ of people. It seems that he suffers from bouts of solipsism – sometimes thinking he’s the only conscious being in the universe. This doesn’t stop him from being friendly to other people, however, finding it incredibly difficult to be antagonistic or selfish.
Dominic loves lighting up others’ lives. Before he got dragged into A.I.R.’s dirty business he wanted to be a comedian – though most of the time people didn’t find him very funny. He is a bit of a ‘dry flirter’ – meaning that he’ll usually flirt with girls by calling them things like ‘beautiful gorgeous’ or ‘goddess of beauty’ for laughs instead of suggesting anything. He will not be insincere with this, however, and he will always do his best to make someone feel good about themselves. This goes for men as well. He loves making people laugh and happy, but sometimes goes about it a bit too hard and ends up being quite unfunny. This doesn’t dampen his spirits, however, and it won’t stop him from dreaming.
Dominic adores people and being around them, especially those with a sense of humor. Despite his oblivious moments he can be incredibly sensitive to other’s feelings. He can tell when someone is unhappy or angry as long as it doesn’t have to do with him. He can be a bit of a frustrating person to get along with because of how openly silly he is – not above humming his own theme music or making rimshot sound effects whenever he tells a joke. He’s always looking for opportunities to be funny and utter the occasional ‘that’s what she said’ jokes (sometimes at the most inappropriate times.) Dominic hates having to be serious, finding it awkward and uncomfortable – but he will do his best if the situation calls for it. He loves old comic books, horror films, and origami.
There are more things that Dom loves, but keeps a secret. You're going to have to pry hard and deep to get it out of him, but you won't be happy with what you find. Mickey has a darker side to him than he allows most people to think despite his happy disposition.
HISTORY.
hometown; denver, colorado.
family members;
Walter Sauls [Adoptive Father]
Lillian Sauls [Adoptive Mother]
Dominic was never meant for anything special. All he ever found out about where he came from was that he was born to some prostitute, given up, then adopted by a family that couldn’t have a baby. He was told at the ripe age of twelve that his mother engaged in some recreational drugs while pregnant with him which probably causes his mental ‘glitches’. Needless to say, Dominic grew up feeling like he had little to no purpose in life and thus his school work and social life suffered in general from his lack of motivation.
It wasn’t that his parents were overly blunt with explaining his history, but Dominic was a very inquisitive little boy and would always ask them about it. He never wanted to believe he came from such a filthy origin. Still, he was willing to accept that his mother couldn’t take care of him and he felt no bitterness towards her. He wanted to believe that his mother loved him and that he was special when there was really no way of knowing. Luckily he grew up in good spirits. He didn’t let what he had been told growing up bring him down and he was inspired to become someone who could spread laughter and happiness. If he wasn’t born with a purpose, he’d make himself one.
In school he struggled in school his whole life and eventually dropped out his sophomore year of college at only nineteen years old. His parents were gentle with him because they came to accept the fact he was plagued by some kind of learning disability. Dominic used this as an excuse for pretty much any situation so that he wouldn’t have to work for something he didn’t want. He saw no logic in going to college when all he wanted to do was become a comedian. Why spend all that money?
The day eventually came a few years later when his parents put down a safety deposit for an apartment in Japan (since the only foreign language he ever bothered learning was japanese.) Dominic was kicked out at twenty-three and forced to find a job before the month was out, otherwise he would have become evicted and homeless in a foreign country. Desperate, he was willing to answer any well-paying ad in the paper when he came across a shady-looking job description. All it said was that they were looking for an animal handler (with quite a bit of fine print at the bottom.) Dominic was hired to work at A.I.R. as a digimon handler, having to take care of the captured digimon and make sure that they would get a regular amount of exercise.
Little did he know that meant putting his life in the hands of livid digimon every day.
