In a few words he could be described as spacey, jumpy, and perhaps a little overly cautious.
Spacey not as in that dumb kind of 'duhwha?' sort of way, but in a 'I'm thinking... Go away' sort of spacey. He has a habit of just sort of drifting off into a mental tangent, totally zoning out anyone and anything that doesn't have to do with whatever he's thinking about. If asked he may reply with 'Oh nothing', 'It doesn't concern you', or his favorite response 'You wouldn't care'. And even if you insist that you do care, he still will not tell you.
It'd be an understatement to say he keeps to himself, and it's not really for any discernible reason either. He isn't one to strike up a conversation due to how cautious he is. When he does talk to someone he gives short or precise answers, liking to get right to the point of things. He can be blunt at times, and if it offends he will probably apologize for it.
He usually doesn't like to get into affairs that do not affect him, but that doesn't mean he will sit idly by while someone's getting the tar beat out of them. He will help and if you manage to gain him as a friend he will be reliable and protective. He won't follow you around to make sure you don't get into trouble, though it might be found that he has a good habit of showing up when he's needed.
The jumpy part of him would be that he can seem panicked at times, such as when someone approaches him from behind or drags him from one of his thought tangents. He doesn't like sudden movements and may flinch away from them or perhaps even step away from the one who made them until he feels he's safe again. This ties into the overly cautious part of him, and it's hard to gain his trust. That 'if' back in that part about making friends with him is a really big 'if' due to this.
He may view any new face as an enemy for a while before he decides to trust them. He also has an usually strong fear of dark places for a Virus type... HISTORY. current residence → Wanders from place to place with no set home.
full history →
Blackguilmon started out as just a normal Jyarimon in Primary Village, lined up to follow the normal digivolution route. However he was oddly frightened of everything and he pretty much stayed by himself, just watching others play while he sat where he deemed it 'safe'. It was thought by the caregivers that this was just a phase and once he digivolved he would get through it and be more outgoing. This however was not the case.
When he finally did digivolve into a Gigimon, he still stayed away from everyone and watched his now Rookie level friends play fight and make bets on who would reach the next level first. One day a stray blast from one of their fights got close to him... Far too close, nearly grazing his side. The young Digimon was immediately frightened and ran away as fast as his stubby little legs could carry him. He didn't even really pay attention to where he was going, but by the time he stopped he realized... It was dark.
His scared voice was pathetic against the darkness, barely even coming out at normal volume as he whined for help. Something within the darkness heard him... But it was not friendly. To this day he has no idea what it was that attacked him, only remembering it had wings. It knocked him aside and he thought for sure he was going to be deleted right then and there.
He didn't just want to give up though, so he stood up. He was shaking badly and he hurt but he had to fight, he had to survive. He let out a fierce shout toward whatever had attacked him, attempting to use his Hot Bite attack on the unseen foe. It just knocked him back over though... Like it was playing with him almost.
He still didn't give in though, getting up each time he was knocked down. He knew he wasn't strong enough to protect himself, and he knew he couldn't run now. He burned with anger toward his weakness, toward his fear, toward his actions... He would still be safe if he hadn't ran away. It was then that he decided for once he'd be brave and he would at least go out fighting.
Something odd happened at this moment, not really realizing as his data shifted in the desperate situation he faced. His unwillingness to back down, the threat toward his life that he faced forced him to digivolve. Without even thinking he just shot a breath of sickly looking flames at his enemy, successful in at least driving it off. He walked until he saw the light again, realizing by now he no longer walked on four stubby little legs but two powerful ones.
He'd finally digivolved, just like the others!
But something was... Wrong. At least he was sure something was, he was supposed to be red and black... Not black and red. The darkness, both in environment and emotion had twisted everything and made his digivolution path go off track. He went back to the Primary Village, thinking maybe someone could fix it and make everything normal... But it seemed that was not possible.
The others rejected him soundly now, so he just sat in a patch of sunlight by himself. He couldn't bear to be in the darkness, everything seeming to twist whenever he strayed from the light. He even had to sleep at night with a small bright fire near him, otherwise he would lay awake and wait in scared silence for day to come. He eventually left the village to wander alone, finding that his presence was no longer appreciated in the least by the others due to his own tainted visage and data.
In time, a dark web of events would snare the dragon digimon in its sticky strings.
It all started with one fateful day when BlackGuilmon met with an Antylamon; she treated him like kin and spoke of a place that accepted their kind... Virus types. The group was described as a family, as a place to belong, as a home. It all sounded wonderful to the rookie but it was his nature not to dive into things without a little thought, so he politely told the ultimate digimon he would think about it and thanked her for telling him of such a group. At this point in time he had no idea what the Shepherds were or what they did, as the rabbit digimon had not told him any of these things... It was as if she had known that if she had, he would most likely never consider it.
Sometime later he would meet her again but not under such favorable terms; BlackGuilmon had gotten himself lost in the graveyard place in front of the Bakemon Church, where he was found and threatened by the shepherd Fangmon. The dragon digimon found he could do nothing but cower at the wolf's feet, but he was saved from being deleted by Antylamon. She was not as kind as the last time they had spoke with each other though, her words almost scathing as she told the rookie digimon how ugly fear was on him. Fangmon disagreed with his superior but at the very least he left him alone, allowing him to run away... And right into another problem.
That problem went by the name of Oswell, a digimon hunter from the organization called A.I.R.
BlackGuilmon had never heard of A.I.R or digimon hunters or anything, so he was highly confused when he was attacked. Against his will the rookie fought the human, as he could not simply give in again... Not after what Antylamon had said to him. A more feral side of him surfaced during the battle, a manefestation of the darkness within himself that he seems to be so unaware of harboring. As a result he badly injured the hunter's arm, burning it with little flames and tearing at it with his fangs.
However he soon came to his senses and his guilt was so great that he basically just gave up, and Oswell readily restrained him and made to drag him back to camp. Then something rather unexpected happened; the same Fangmon who had nearly scared him to death earlier came to BlackGuilmon's aid, or at the very least drove the human off. After some conversation it was decided by the wolf digimon that since he'd bothered to help and the rookie was under the protection of the Harvesters, that he could at least repay them somehow. This 'somehow' was Fangmon bringing BlackGuilmon in to work for them, more specifically to be a member of the gang known as the 'Herders'.
No BlackGuilmon didn't like how things had gone for him, but there didn't seem to be a way out for him at the time; he took the codename 'Dusk' and with a certain reluctance began to work with them in their endevor to bring humans in for expermentation.
However when the Herders decided on staging some half-planned coup d'état to take over the Harvesters, BlackGuilmon saw his chance for an exit. He didn't support the plan at all, and for once he managed to stand firm on what he thought. The dragon digimon didn't believe the takeover would go well at all either, and he didn't want to die. Lucky for him the Herders left him behind, and in the chaos he was able to escape the Harvester's compound altogether. As far as he knows the other Herders are dead, though he isn't sure of the state of the Harvesters group.... Nor does he really plan to go back and see.
When BlackGuilmon left behind the Herders he left his codename and matrix as well, losing the ability to appear human and the ability to go into the human world. Such a shame, as he didn't really get to see an awful lot of it. As stated before though, he won't go back to the Harvesters, and is even constantly on the move so as not to get caught by any of their members. He is haunted by the constant paranoia they're looking for him, though with how harmless he is it's very unlikely they are.
