Today smelled wonderful. Gertrude's lips pulled back as she took a deep breath, enjoying herself. It had rained the night before, and though this left the grass wet and slippery, the air itself had been blessed by the rain with a pleasant coolness that indoor air fresheners could never quite get right. Her left hand squeezed and a high-pitched click emitted from the little device she held. The world opened up around her and she walked forward, continuing to click.
She could feel Minomon wiggle a bit inside of her hoodie and she brought her hand up to touch at his head. She had her front zip undone enough so that the little digimon could peer out and breathe freely. Normally this would have been out of the question, as leaving it unzipped like that would make her incredibly cold. It was okay for now, though, since the digimon was providing warmth of his own. She was actually even warmer with him in her slightly unzipped hoodie than she would be if she had left him out and had it zipped all the way up like usual.
"Hey Gertie?" the digimon piped up. He did not react too much to her touch, but he did not shy away either. "We should play on some of the stuff here, I'm tired of sandboxes!"
"But Ah like the sand," the girl said, pouting and biting at her lip. She liked the texture. She liked piling it up and up and up as high as she could get it. She could make shapes too!
What she did not much like, though, was heights. A jungle-gym, a slide, swings, they all required her to be elevated up off the ground. She could hear other kids playing on them, having a blast. She herself could not bring herself to do it, though. She did not like being up off the ground. She liked climbing through some of the castles and tunnels that they had, but those required she climb up first. It always took her a while to get up the nerve to do so - especially when new to a playground - so mostly she'd end up playing around in the nearby sand instead.
"Man... at least if you're gonna be in the playground, go play with those jingle things!"
Gertrude paused in her walking, turning her head around as though she were looking. In the few times she had been here she had heard chimes being played with by some of the children. At the moment she was not hearing this, which meant that nobody was playing with it. She turned in the direction she could guess it to be at and started heading toward it, speeding up the clickings that she had slowed while standing still.
She ended up underneath some of the climbing areas, wooden (from what she could tell by the sounds of running on them) pathways elevated for kids to play in. She held out her hand until she touched a wooden support beam, carefully dragging it along the surface. She was not sure where the chimes were as she had never been to them yet. She could tell she was in a more enclosed place, though the area to her left stayed fairly open except for where what she suspected a slide to be.
"Where is it?" she finally asked Minomon. She wanted to find it for herself, but she really could not find it at all.
"Just keep going. It's a bit ahead and to the right!" he spoke, wiggling. He seemed excited for something that was simply eight large chimes arranged in order from lowest pitch to highest pitch. It was something different and new, though, and that kind of thing is always fun!

Why was he up this early, usually he'd still be sleeping probably.
Kale yawned and slid a hand under his bandanna, rubbing at his eyes as if he thought it would help wake himself up. Today was Saturday so he would in fact usually be asleep, since on weekends he tended to sleep in as late as he wanted unless life found a reason to kick him out of bed. This morning the reason had been his partner Upamon, who had jumped on him and insisted he got up until finally the blonde-haired sleepyhead could stand it no longer... Also he just didn't want to disappoint his partner. She had really been wanting to get out of the house, he just had no idea how early she would want to.
When she first woke him up around 8:30 this morning, he got his answer.
Upamon looked up from her place in the crook of her partner's arm, watching as he yawned again. The small digimon giggled a little for whatever reason, smiling up at him cheerfully. "I told you to go to bed early." The little beast digimon said with another giggle, smiling more as her partner gave a light laugh. "Yeah you did... I really wish I had listened." Kale admitted, grinning despite what he was saying and how sleepy he still was.
Somehow the boy managed to look around despite the blindfold he wore, the semi-transparent cloth allowing him to see the park Upamon had asked to go to. The place was filled with kids, something he really didn't find unexpected in the slightest. Kale found himself feeling a little awkward suddenly with how tall he was, feeling the need to go sit down somewhere. He looked around a little bit again before going and sitting down on a bench, nearly standing right back up; it was wet and cold.
However the teen just decided to deal with it, staying seated on the bench and placing Upamon in his lap. The in training watched the kids play a moment, before glancing up to her partner. "Kale, were you ever that small?" She asked, though the way her voice sounded made it seem like she wouldn't believe it if the boy said yes. Kale actually laughed at the question, smiling some and glancing at the playing kids a moment as he figured out an answer.
"Of course... Though not for very long." He said jokingly, looking down at his partner a moment before sort of pulling his jacket around himself and the digimon more. It was a little cold this morning, and he was glad to have such a warm coat on... Though he had to wonder if he was getting any looks thanks to the design on the back. After a moment though Kale decided not to worry about it though, like he usually did; to him it was just a collection of shapes, and anyone who took offense should really try to see it how he did. Not that he believed this way of thinking was more superior, but it certainly made it easier to shrug things off.
Kale blinked and sat up a little straighter as he heard a clicking noise, the digimon in his lap looking around curiously for the source. Almost simultaneously their eyes landed on Gertrude, Upamon's eyes seeming to land on something other than the girl though... She could tell Minomon was there while her human partner could not. The boy tilted his head to the side a little, as if he were confused by something. Not at all as to why she was using the clicker thing but instead the lack of parents, even looking around a bit to see if maybe he'd just missed them or something... Or maybe they let her wander around like this.
While the average person may not really dwell too long on it Kale found himself troubled that she seemed all alone, until Upamon managed to gain his attention with a tiny and indignant squeak; she had been trying to reach the boy for about a minute now while he was busy thinking about lost parents. The teen blinked and looked down at his partner, just waiting for her to go ahead and speak. "That girl has a digimon." The in training said with a little wiggle, seeming excited at the idea. Kale looked from his partner to watch the girl a moment, noting she seemed to be talking to something and even pushing his bandanna up for a moment to get a better look... Really sometimes Upamon had to wonder why he bothered to wear it.
He managed to spot Minomon, watching as Gertrude walked towards the chimes under the play structure. Kale suddenly felt weird about this, but then quickly shrugged it off; he wasn't watching her for any wrong reasons. After a moment or two something possessed him to get up from the bench, holding Upamon in his arms securely as he started over. The teen went mostly unnoticed by the playing children, as they were lost in their own games... A good thing since he didn't exactly want to be distracted at the moment.
Once there he kind of bent down a little so he could actually look at the girl, standing a respectful distance away. "Uh... This'll probably seem weird but like... You've got people watching you right?" Kale asked a bit awkwardly, not knowing why he was having issues... He supposed it was just odd to randomly single the one kid out who happened to be blind and ask if they were under supervision; yeah, that was odd. Upamon found the nervousness foreign, as usually her partner was so confident in everything he said and did. "Really he's just worried because you're so small!... And plus I told him you had a digimon." The little digimon piped up, deciding to help the boy out.
For a moment Kale was worried someone might hear... But the kids were being so loud he had to figure they wouldn't.

Gertrude's clicking bounced off differently from another object, absorbing the sound less than the surrounding wood. Was that it, then? She started to make her way closer when an obstacle made their way into her path. Soft-sounding compared to the structures around her, it was a person. A tall one, at that. She could feel Minomon tensing. She turned her head toward the stranger in an attempt to look as though she was looking at him.
She listened to both the older man, and the younger-sounding foreign voice speak. People watching her? Pshaw, who needs supervision? The younger-sounding one made a good argument for her already.
"Course Ah got someone watchin' me!" she said, curling her lips back to smile. "Mah digimon makes the perfect little bodyguard ever! Ah ain't gotta worry about a thing with him around!"
The bristling and tensing within her sweater she had been feeling were halted as his ego was stroked and his pride ignited. "Yeeeeeeeup!" he piped up happily. Seeing the two of them approach at random had sent him on guard immediately. Of course if he had a fellow digimon than he might be an okay guy, but that did not always matter. When it came to his pal Gertie, he had to be careful! You never know who would try to hurt a cute, naïve, trusting little girl. It was his job to be the hero!
"Whaddaya want anyway, huh?" Little bug guy was trying to the big tough guy.

"Course Ah got someone watchin' me! Mah digimon makes the perfect little bodyguard ever! Ah ain't gotta worry about a thing with him around!"Huh... Well he supposed that made sense, even if Minomon looked like a little tiny worm; he knew not to underestimate a digimon no matter what stage they were, knowing the little creatures still had power. Kale had seen Upamon herself chase off hostile digimon before, though of course they were only rookies and anything bigger they immediately had to run like hell from. Hostile humans of course would be no match for even a digital monster at Minomon's stage though, given that humans weren't made to withstand such things for the most part like digimon were. In other words he had every reason to be sure that Gertrude was well looked after, even if as he'd thought earlier Minomon just looked like a little worm thing.
Upamon meanwhile had always been pretty sure that the girl was fine, since she had been able to sense Gertrude's partner straight off. Of course she had been curious enough not to halt Kale's concerned inquiry so she could meet the girl and her digimon, as it was exciting in a way to find another friendly and destined digimon here in the human world. The boy holding her hadn't really met too many other digidestined either, the best digimon only remembering the one boy from Toy town... The kid's uptight behavior still confused Kale actually, and he had tried to talk to her about it before to try and figure out. Of course the in training had very little to offer on reasons behind the behavior, so these conversations were always short lived and largely pointless enough.
There was also the man that claimed to be a woman but... That had just been a little too odd to revisit in all honesty."Whaddaya want anyway, huh?"Kale's unseen eyes blinked behind his bandanna in surprise as the bug tried to act tough, and if he had been a jerk he might of laughed... Maybe. It was really hard for the boy to see himself as a jerk in all honesty, but really now was not the time to start thinking about other things so he tugged his focus back to answering Minomon. Even so he still took a moment to answer, and anyone's blame would probably land on his hair color... Really though Kale was just finding himself terribly distracted suddenly for some reason, but it wasn't hard for him to shove his thoughts back to into a more orderly form. "Want? Oh, I don't want anything little bug dude. I just wanted to make sure your partner was like... Safe from bad people and stuff." The teenager explained, not really seeming so awkward anymore now that he believed himself to be established as a 'good guy'.
The tallness and the hidden eyes probably weren't helping his image all that much, since he did pretty much tower over the girl... But hey, he couldn't do anything about his genetics! Besides he pretty much towered over most people, even his friend Dom who was about 5 years older than him... It was actually kind of funny and Kale never failed to point it out either. Enough about height differences though, as despite the fact that the boy was sure he wouldn't be seen as a threat by Gertrude and Minomon anymore, he was pretty sure there were more than a few anxious pairs of parental eyes burning into his back. He could also just be worrying about nothing though, and just way too used to everyone flipping out about such things over the States; he had actually being accused of being some kind of creeper for talking to some woman's kid when he had been about 16, having already been pretty damn tall by then.
Needless to say, that was why he was so nervous about all of this; especially since back then the girl he'd been talking to had only been about two years younger.
Upamon took his mind off of events from years passed as the little digimon decided to speak up, wanting to dispel any negative thoughts about her partner's intentions. "He just wanted to make sure everything was okay, yeah! And... I was too curious to stop him." She admitted with a little giggle, looking at Minomon a moment before looking up at Gertrude. "I think he needs to meet more digidestined too, he's only met two so far!" The little beast digimon said, wiggling a little bit in Kale's hold for whatever reason. She was glad this was the next digimon her partner would meet, especially since the last encounter had been a bit of a catastrophe of sorts.
Hopefully this would instill in Kale that there were normal digidestined out there to meet.
