Midnight.
It was late, and to this point in time, Kokomon and her partner, Nathaniel, still had yet to find a good place to sleep. They had been on the road for what felt like ages. They had come from far away, Washington in the United States at that. It was impressive to think that a human could get so far on his own, but perhaps it was due to such strong determination found in his desire to find a place where he belonged. Kokomon certainly understood that. She had found herself in a similar place back in the Digital World.
In any case, Kokomon had no worries about being out and walking on her own at this hour of the night. It was dark. Even if someone saw her, they probably wouldn't get the chance to realize how unordinary her appearance was. Of course, this is why Nathaniel and Lopmon did most of their traveling at night time.
"I don't think we're going to be able to find a good place to sleep tonight," Kokomon said with a little sigh. She did wish that she could have a nice bed to sleep in once morning came around.
"Maybe we should go and find some more money?" she suggested to Nathaniel. And of course, her way of finding money was through pickpocketing. She had been doing that for a while now. They needed the money though. No money means no good food.

Midnight in a foreign land with neither food nor money... He was pretty much screwed, he figured, not to mention the fact that he can’t even speak Japanese! Yet even if he wanted to return home, it was too late already, his ‘parents’ had probably forgotten all about him already...
The teenager sauntered over to the closest park bench, a stiff wooden bench, good enough only for a brief rest. There was no way he could sleep on something like this, and it was right out in the open too. So for a few moments he decided just to sit at the end of the bench, as Kokomon’s chatter drifted to his ears. ”Probably not,” he shrugged as if it didn’t matter to him, but man would a comfortable bed be nice right about now...
While Nate still had this bet going with himself in the back of his mind, that the brown creature’s speech was nothing more than a hallucination on his part, still he amused himself by conversing with her. It had certainly kept him preoccupied on the boat, because of her the teenager had only had to worry about his seasickness for three quarters of the boat ride instead of the full time!
”I guess it should be easy this late at night,” at that, the boy forced himself back onto his feet. The effort it took him just to do that got him to realize how tired he must already be. If they had any luck at all, maybe the two of them could find a target quickly, retrieve some money swiftly, and find a nice place to rest at for the night so they wouldn't have to resort to.. ugh, a bench in the middle of a park.
"But what kinda weirdo would be wandering around a kiddie park at this hour?" Nate sighed, as if the whole plan had been ruined already.

Currently, the biggest problem with Kokomon's pickpocket idea was the fact that she had no hands or feet. Usually, when she did something like that, she would at least have Nathaniel to steal their attention while she could take whatever was needed from behind them. But doing so most certainly required something to grab with. She couldn't go digging in someone's purse or pocket with her teeth. It just didn't work mechanically.
"Besides... I think I'm too hungry to digivolve," Kokomon said with an uncharacteristicly pessimistic tone. If only her stomach were just a little bit more full, she could possibly revert to her normal level of optimism. The whole reason she had de-digivolved in the first place was to conserve energy so that she wouldn't need to eat so much of their food. But now, it seemed just about time that she become strong again.
"We haven't eaten since breakfast," Kokomon whined. She then hoped up onto Nathaniel's back and used her the suction on her feet to climb all the way up to his shoulder. From there, she began to lick his ear playfully. She was trying to lighten the negative mood which she had just set.
"You have giant ears," Kokomon said as a blunt observation. She smiled and started to laugh wildly. "Tee-Hehehehehe."

”I haven’t forgotten that,” he groaned, just as hungry as she was. Breakfast that morning, it really had been the last time they had any real food to eat. Additionally, even at that point there had not been much to spare, having to share the food between the two of them the meal had ended up quite unsatisfying. One would think that a creature as small as Kokomon wouldn’t eat as much as she did, but man, if Nate didn’t know any better he would think she had three stomachs!
His stomach began to growl as thoughts of different foods swam through his head as they pleased. Although he snapped out of it when a cold wetness touched his ear, causing him to real backward. Nate’s hand darted up to wipe the gross spit off his ear, while his other moved at the same time, to pull his baseball cap further down his head in back. ”Shut up. Your ears are bigger, especially in your other form, and don’t try to say they aren’t!” by now, his face had turned beet red. Crazy rabbit thing, should have set it back out into the wild when he had the chance.
"I think you're just faking it. You just wanna make me do this all on my own, huh?" he crossed his arms over his chest and continued to stand still, unmoving. "If you want half the spoils you have to do half the work. So, do your digivolve thing and help me."

"Tired,""I know,""Why do you think we chose to walk?"The reply of an older male voice spoke again, sounding very parental and matter-of-fact "Because, you hate the Subway, you still need a car, and your bike was stolen by some neighbor hood kids, no doubt." there was a pause of silence, followed by a tired sigh, sounding both sheepish and very very tired. The two who were walking through this area were both rather tired, one very much less so than the other, and was kind of actually enjoying the stroll at this time of night...well he considered it morning or twilight. The one was was enjoying it was the matter-of-fact voice that spoke, but he certainly wasn't human, in fact, for from it. His name was Renamon, and that was exactly what he was, a tall two legged, yellow fox monster. This Digimon was traveling with his human partner, a rather ditzy brunette boy by the name of Hanako, together, they were trying to find their way back home before the both of them past out from lack of sleep. Where they came from was a good hour or so away from the park, which was obvious from the look on his partners face, pure and utter exhaustion, but the hidden Will-power of the boy seemed to keep him going, even in the dark. Hanako, the human boy, could feel his eye lids get heavier and heavier, in fact he was afraid that the weight of his sleepiness would be soon too heavy for him. He started to wish he was a Renamon, because from what this space-case could tell, his Renamon was doing a wonderful job at walking beside him. Of course, this brought the human to start day dreaming, or rather dreaming while he was still awake. It went a little something like this: Hanako had turned into a Renamon right before his own Renamon's eyes. He blinked in surprise, looking at his brand new body, yellow, slender, and perfectly furry in comparison to his human form. "Oh my goodness!" exclaimed his Renamon "Hanako, you silly goose!" this was kind of an odd thing for his Renamon, because in reality, his Renamon would never say something like that. (In fact, Hanako could recall his Digimon clearly stating he'd rather die than say "silly goose" at one point). Then all of a sudden...the newly turned Renamon called Hanako turned into a gigantic Kuwagamon, and started to destroy the city out of rage because him home was so far away. The boy blinked open his brown eyes suddenly was he dreaming, or was that just him imagining things? Quickly he shook his head, trying to chase away the day-dream and at least try to pay attention to where he was going. Part of the reason they were so late going home was because Hanako constantly got lost, and Renamon had to try to navigate them back on target. Suddenly he felt his arm get grabbed and pulled back by a furry paw, when Hanako turned he found it was none other than his Renamon. The Renamon was standing, ears pricked forward in an interest to something "Hana, I sense another Digimon," Hanako's brown eyes scanned the area, only seeing the figure of one other person in the darkness. "Where?"

Kokomon stopped licking her partner's ear. She understood soon enough that he didn't like it as he pulled his hat further down. Nonetheless, she had only done it off of instinct in the first place. She liked Nate a lot, and thus, she wanted to lick him. That was simply how it was. What could she say? It was in her programming.
"My ears are not bi-" before she could give her rebuttle, Nate had already shut her off by telling her that she couldn't say they weren't bigger. So instead, she just turned away and from him and pouted as she remained resting on his shoulders. And not only that, but he continued to go on, talking more and more, this time about how she was faking her inability to digivolve.
Nonetheless, she hated having to say that she couldn't do it. kokomon was never one to want to say anything like that. She wanted to believe that she could do anything if she set her mind to it, and perhaps she could digivolve. The problem here was that if she digivolved, she would need to eat more to help her conserve her energy.
"If I digivolve, I think I'm going to need more than half," Kokomon huffed. But rather energeticall, she jumped up into the air in front of Nate.
"Lopmon!"
The Digimon had completely transformed herself. Still in the air, she spread her ears out and used them to glide. She turned herself around and made her way on top of Nate's head, where she lay on her stomach, her ears were flapped down on either side of his face.
"See?! Your ears are still bigger!" She then reached out and began to tug on his ears. She stretched them as far out as she could.

The furry creature just loved testing his patience, didn’t it? To prevent himself from getting angry and doing anything he might regret, Nate let out one long breath, a deep breath to calm himself. To some extent, it helped... Not entirely, but it was the best thing he could think of to do so as to prevent himself from yelling at the rabbit. That would be far harsher than she deserved, and as annoyed as he was right now he knew that it was his hunger that was playing the biggest role.
”They are not! Cut it out!” He muttered defensively. He had always been self-conscious about his ears, his stupid ears. It could have just been his own perceptions though, judging them too harshly. Other people probably wouldn’t bother to even notice, he had such an ordinary appearance, who would? Yet now this long-eared rabbit thing had gone and decided to point it out more than once! That meant it had to be true. He needed a bigger hat.
Obviously, Lopmon had bigger ears... yet Nate just knew that his own had to look as big as the ears of an elephant when she pulled them out to the sides like this! The boy raised his hands to where she was holding onto his head, trying to grab her little rabbit arms into each hand if he could, stop her from making his ears look even bigger than they already were. ”Stop it—” what was that? A voice? Voices...? Nate couldn't see anything through this darkness. ”I think I heard something. Did you?”

The Renamon's black nose wiggled in haling the air around him for several moments or so, tail swishing from side to side, thinking. Should he try getting his human out of this place as fast as possible before something bad happened, or should he take Hanako with him, and check it out. Well, he certainly knew what his human would want, the teenaged human would probably want to check it out, since everything was an "adventure" to him. Renamon's blue eyes scanned the area for several moment, paw still holding onto the Hanako firmly, so that he wouldn't run off into any sort of danger. Now then, what were the odds of it being a friendly Digimon, especially at this time of night? Probably slim, the fox decided as he stood in the darkness with his partner, it would certainly be better if they both just left. He turned his head "Ha-," Where did he go?! Renamon stared in alarm at where he had been holding the boy in place. He slipped right out of his paw when he wasn't looking! The fox whirled around and sure enough, not to far from where they where Hanako was searching for the Digimon. The Fox sighed, rolling his eyes, what was he going to do with this boy? As tempting as selling him on the internet was...Renamon knew he was stuck with Hanako for life, and when it really came down to it, he really cared about the human. "Hanako! I advise that you return to me at once!" too late, the boy was probably so deep in thought he didn't even hear Renamon at all. Hanako's brown eyes glanced from side to side "Digimon," the boy called out just as Renamon wandered up to him. Of course Hanako hardly noticed at all, he was too busy looking for this new Digimon "Digimon! Come out, come out where ever you are!" He spun around in circles as though that might help him search for the Digimon, completely oblivious to the fact that this Digimon could be an enemy. He just wanted to see it! and if it was an enemy, Hanako would be in another adventure, and somehow they could and would survive it, they always did...didn't they? The fox Digimon sighed and pointed in the direction he thought the Digimon would be "Try over there...." with out another word the boy dashed in that direction, until he spotted a rather, peculiar pair. What were they doing out here...in the middle of night? The teenaged boy stopped in his tracks for a few seconds, then started to slowly approach "Excuse me, we're looking for a...a Digimon," called out Hanako with out realizing that one of these two were a Digimon

An peculiar pair approached the Lopmon and her partner. Renamon, and a human at that. How odd. To think that a Digimon as big as Renamon would be walking out in the open like this. Had they no discretion? It was so obvious. Anyone out here this late at night would see Renamon. The only thing that Lopmon could think was that... maybe Renamon could convince people that he was a human in a costume. That was the only plausible explanation. However, considering that she now saw a Renamon, which she was sure to be a Digimon, Lopmon didn't have to hide. She jumped off from atop of Nate's head and onto the ground.
"Hiya! If you're looking for a Digimon, then you've come to the right place!" Lopmon said rather enthusiastically. She then held up her right index finger and pointed to the Renamon. "Because there's one right behind you!"
Lopmon took a moment to look up at her partner and nodded again. She wondered if he had figured out that the Renamon was a Digimon or not. He probably had. It was so blatantly obvious, she thought, but if Nate didn't figure it out, perhaps that would explain how Renamon could blend in so well in front of the ignorance of humans. Really, a yellow fox shouldn't be so hard to identify by the public. Lopmon took another look at the fox and started cracking up. She tried to muffle her laughs by cupping her hands over her mouth.
"Tee-hee-hee-hee!"

Well, he wasn’t crazy. A figure approached, someone much taller than Nate, running over to them. Gah! It could be a thief. A mugger. Nate and Lopmon, the would-be thieves, were about to become the victims themselves!
The boy moved little by little as he watched the person get closer and closer, shuffling his feet until the park bench he had been resting on earlier was between them. It was an obstacle now, one that a potential mugger would have to overcome before he could steal from Nate.
When the teenager was close enough, he no longer seemed as threatening as Nate had been thinking he was a few moments prior. Yet, still there was a problem here... ”Uh—uhh...” he felt like an idiot. What kind of complete moron would run away, fleeing to Japan without the slightest understanding of their main spoken language? When it came to Japanese, Nate didn’t know a single word of it! Seriously, he was not going to be able to survive out here.
...However, wait... Lopmon... she understood?
And she was talking about 'digimon'. Not this again... Could he really deny acknowledgment of the humanoid fox though? "Oh great, there's more of you?" the boy groaned, his eyes moved over from Renamon down to Lopmon with an eyebrow raised. Of course, Nate was speaking english, it was the only language he really knew after all.

Hanako took a step back in surprise when out flew exactly what he was looking for, and it appeared what he was looking for was an adorable brown bunny. He smiled down at it, sleepy eyes drooping slightly, even though he was in the presence of potential new friends, Hanako was still just as tired. Then, this bunny started to speak, the human was so tired he hardly registered what she was saying until many seconds after she started. He blinked for several moments, wait, there was a Digimon behind him? He turned, and smiled again, oh, it was his Renamon, now he was starting to understand...she was joking. He laughed a little at the bunny Digimon, "Ahahaha I see what you mean," giving her a wink, the boy looked up at the human, and gave him a friendly Hanako smile, still having yet to realize that this person didn't speak Japanese "Is this yours, she's so cute, and looks so soft!" he then nodded eagerly, hoping that he didn't seem to scary at this time of night, yet at the same time, being to tired to really care. Meanwhile his Renamon smiled politely at the Lopmon, blue eyes gleaming with a familiarness, rather glad he had come across another Digimon like herself. "Good evening, I hope Hanako hasn't bothered you in anyway. He tends to be a little on the overly friendly side." the fox paused and bowed his head down "I assure you, he means no harm," he certainly hoped that the boy didn't anyway, though, the Renamon was certain he didn't...he could never be too careful though. "Oh great, there's more of you?" The Renamon's tail bristled slightly, and he cleared his throat rather displeased by the rudeness of her partner " Was that an insult, young man?" he asked the human cautiously, making Hanako blink out of his trance. It was only now that Hanako realized that this foreign looking boy was speaking in English, what's more, Renamon seemed to understand it. Well, this Japanese boy used to speak it quite fluently after going to school in america, but it was almost all forgotten when he returned back to Japan. "Ah...I'm sorry, You speak Japanese?" Well, that was his best attempt at the English language, but his accent was thick, and Hanako couldn't even understand why he himself was trying to say. Renamon paused and smiled a little sheepishly "So...what brings you two out here in the middle of night? Are your parents not worried?"

"Hey! Hey! Hey! I belong to no one!" Lopmon testified. She was actually upset with the way Hanako had said that. It made her sound like she was an animal or a slave or something. The thought crossed Lopmon's mind to attackk Hanako just for that, but Lopmon had more self-control than that. After all, she wasn't an animal.
"I don't know about you and Renamon, but Nate and I are partners," Lopmon puffed her chest out intimidatingly. Her ears inflated as well, both of them took to the air. It was pretty obvious to see how upset she was at the accusation which Hanako had made against her.
"And I may be cute, but I am not soft," Lopmon huffed again. She then exhaled one large breath which allowed her chest to come in and go back to its normal size. Her ears slowly began to deflate as well and dropped back down to flop at her sides. Lucky it was for Hanako that Lopmon was nice. At least she was nice right now.

”I don’t. Not a word of it,” as he answered he realized how very displeased with himself the fact made him feel. Maybe he just needed one of those dumb little translator books or something, he would have to search for one. Chances were he and Lopmon were going to be in this country for a while, he was going to need it... unless he wanted to rely on her to translate everything for him.
By the sounds of it, this kid wasn’t so talented with English himself, so they were both kind of at a loss here. At least, he knew some words, where as Nate could hardly say ‘hello’ in Japanese if he wanted to. The next best thing that he could think of, that should be understand no matter what the language barriers were, was introductions. Although, it was probably pointless. ”My name’s Nathaniel Stark, and the rabbit thing is Lopmon...” the talkative long-eared creature that continuously insisted they were ‘partners’. Was she doing it again? She was probably doing it again. The fact that she was speaking to this person and digimon in their language made it difficult for Nate to follow the conversation at all.
”What’s that supposed to be? Some kind of absurd mating dance?” Lopmon was acting so strangely, was it weird that that had been the first conclusion the boy had jumped to...? Well, they were the only two digimon he had ever seen.

"Hey! Hey! Hey! I belong to no one!"
Hanako blinked back at the Lopmon and frowned. When did he say that she belonged to someone? Either this adorable bunny had misunderstood Hanako's words, or Hanako really did say something like that, and he just forgot. The second one seemed more or less likely than the first option. "Hmmmm." he made a slight noise, sounding both apologetic and thoughtful towards the Lopmon, he certainly did wish he would start paying more attention to the things he said more, that was he could apologize or justify himself better. To make matters worse for the poor confused teenager, he managed to hear what the human was saying, making the boys shoulders sag ever so slightly. ”I don’t. Not a word of it,” If Hanako didn't understand the words, he could certainly understand the tone of voice that came with these English words. Oh dear, why couldn't Hanako remember any of the English he learned in America. Certainly forgetting so much in such a small amount of time would be unrealistic, but certainly not for someone like Hanako.
"I don't know about you and Renamon, but Nate and I are partners," The Fox Digimon's blue eyes landed on the small brown rabbit and frowned a little. What was she implying? That he was OWNED by Hanako of all people? Certainly not! The fox straightened up even more to show his pride, if anything the Renamon was more in charge of Hanako, as much as he hated to admit it. He didn't like playing baby-sitter with the almost adult human. "I assure you, young Digimon, Hana and I are partners as well. He just tends to...phrase things wrong. Please excuse his stupidity." here Renamon was again, trying to excuse the boy for insulting potential allies, he certainly wished that Hanako would pay more attention to what he said. Renamon suddenly felt a little strange that his question was not yet acknowledged by either the human male or Lopmon. Did they just not hear him? "You two must have come a long way...." he stated thoughtfully, giving the Lopmon a inquisitive look, hoping she would answer to him.
”My name’s Nathaniel Stark, and the rabbit thing is Lopmon...”
Hanako paused a little, brown eyes studying the foreigner a little sheepishly. Nathaniel Stark....he was giving out him name, Hanako could at least understand an introduction in the English language, so perhaps this wouldn't be so terrible as he thought. "Name mine... " no that wasn't it at all, the japanese boy paused and thought for a troublesome moment or so "My... nam....name.... is.... Hanako oh goodness, he hoped that that was understandable english. Then he looked down at the Lopmon, a smile appearing on his face once more. Oh she was co cute, he just wanted to snuggle her and use her as a pillow, though, he doubted any Digimon would like that very much. "I'm sorry Lopmon. Are your little feelings hurt?" he smiled again and glanced at this Nathaniel person "Isn't she the cutest thing you ever saw?" he asked, forgetting to try it in english. This made the Renamon sigh and smile a little at the human "He thinks that the Lopmon is very cute. How did you find this Digimon?" The Renamon had heard of people who could buy Digimon, so he wasn't too certain about these two.

At this point in time, Lopmon really didn't like the way that Hanako was talking about her. She didn't mind being cute at all. In fact, she knew she was cute and she enjoyed it. She considered it a part of her feminine appeal, however, she didn't like being called soft, as she also considered herself tough, and she was a fighter. Someone who was soft couldn't be a good fighter, right? She hadn't considered it as a physical attribute, but rather a personal one.
"My little feelings?! Ohhhhhh... No you didn't!" At this point, Lopmon was as angry as could be. This Hanako kid really knew how to step on her nerves and undermine her feelings. It was as though he were trying to do it over and over again. Was he? It seemed pretty intentional. Lopmon couldn't help it. Her body started to huff out again. Her chest expanded and her ears stood erect. After this, she lifted herself up from the ground and landed on Hanako's head.
"I'll show you soft and cute! RAAAWR!" Lopmon screamed as she began to bite on Hanako's hair. She attempted to pull out a single bite of it from the boy's scalp, and would if no one stopped her. Now laying on her belly, she held onto the boy's hair with her hands and fingers. Shewas not going to let go easily.
"GRRRRR!"
