APPEARANCE.
Mason's appearance is definitely unusual. At first glance he appears to be someone extremely sickly, his skin abnormally pale and his eyes seeming as if they were somewhat glazed over and almost bloodshot. His behavior is contradictory however, as he never seems to act as ill as he looks.
He is somewhat tall, though no more than most people. Often times, he can come off as a little strange with his mannerisms and it wouldn't be unheard of from someone to automatically label him as some kind of creep. There is almost always a definite look of calculation on his face, his eyes somewhat wide as if he were trying to take everything thing as best he could. He also has a tendency to stare, even well after he's caught or it has become obvious it's making others uncomfortable.
Mason is almost always wearing clothes that cover him almost entirely, save his face. Most of the shirts and pants he owns are long and dark colored, as he has some compulsive thought that it will keep him more protected from the sunlight. He will often go as far as to wearing gloves, a scarf, or some other neck covering, even on the hottest days. If he absolutely has to go out though. Usually, he prefers to stay indoors. Mason has a form of albinism that affects the pigmentation in his skin, hair and eyes; this makes him more susceptible to severe sunburns and skin cancer than most.
However, it's not nearly as severe as he makes it out to be, honestly more paranoid than anything else. Having been conditioned this way since he was younger and out of fear of getting cancer, he has developed a somewhat mild form of heliophobia.
In the digital world Mason appears almost haunting; his skin not just pale, but a ghostly white and his eyes an almost burning red color. His clothes are black and appears to be all one piece, covering everything aside from his face and hair.
PERSONALITY.
Mason's personality is not anymore normal than his appearance. His mannerisms tend to turn people off and he almost seems oblivious to it. Whether it's his staring, inappropriate (or simply off the wall and disturbing) observations, or tendency to think with a cynical point of view...it simply rubs people the wrong way. Despite what people may think, he is fully aware of how his behaviors affect the people around him. It almost amuses him for whatever reason, though he is good at hiding it.
While he's not necessarily outspoken, he doesn't seem too tactful when conversing with others. Often times he will automatically state what's on his mind before deciding whether or not it's something he should really be sharing. His sense of humor is somewhat twisted and most would think he doesn't have one at all...though some things do manage to crack a smile from him. He doesn't do this too often however. If he thinks something is funny or endearing, he doesn't feel the need to laugh or smile to confirm how he feels about it. He just simply does and believes that should be enough.
Mason also has some sort of obsessive dislike and need to fix anything he deems 'imperfect'. What exactly perfects means to him is still unclear, even to himself. It can be anything from a smudge or speck on his clothes or a wall to the placement of furniture in a room. Sometimes if left alone to his own device, he will start rearranging objects in a room or on a table that he dislikes the placement of. There are even times when Mason will blatantly point out the faults in others, though not usually to be degrading or even hostile. This just ties in with the fact that he often speaks before thinking and that he enjoys pointing out the things he observes around him. In some odd way, he almost sees it as a compliment...as it means he finds you worth his attention.
Past all his compulsive tendencies and odd mannerisms, there's a rather inquisitive individual. He enjoying watching and observing people and interactions as he has an interest in the way the human mind work. In some way, the digital world humors him...since he often compared people to nothing but complicated computer programs long before he knew of its existence.
Mason's main interest is most definitely how others process fear, discomfort, and failure. The way people react to certain things or the fact that they all have a series of limits is intriguing to him. He often finds himself wondering exactly what someone's limits and fears may be the moment he meets them, one reason for his usual look of concentration. Mason is a bit experimental in nature and will often times forget he is talking to another human being when having a conversation...instead just staring at them like some sort of puzzle he intended to figure out.
Interestingly enough, Mason doesn't use the information he collects to take advantage of anyone...No, he simply enjoys freaking them out. Mason has a tendency to get carried away with this and can become somewhat grotesque in thought. Though, he has rarely actually hurt anyone physically.
HISTORY.
father; Martin Viles
mother; Viles Natsumi (deceased)
siblings(s); n/a
Mason's life was fairly normal up until he was six years old, at which time his mother passed away after an ongoing fight with cancer. He lived alone with his father for a few months before it became apparent he was in no state to care for the young boy. His fathers depression had debilitated him to the point where Mason could no longer stay in his custody. At this point, he went to live with his mother's parents in Japan.
After this, Mason's life changed vastly from what it had been before. Where his parents took extra caution with what their son did due to his albinism, his grandparents seemed to do so several times over. It was overbearing really, but Mason soon came to accept it as the norm. He wasn't to leave the house before applying several layers of sunscreen and was always expected to be fully covered. This is most likely another reason he still continues to do this, having quickly accustomed himself to this daily routine at an early age. Mason's condition may not have been as severe as his grandparents treated it, but they greatly feared loosing their only grandchild.
This is not to say Mason was pampered or shown any kind of lenience, his guardians' expectation for him still rather high. He was expected to excel in school, maintain his daily list of chores, and go on any errands his grandparents could not fulfill themselves. And eventually, as they got older, he was expected to take care of them as well.
Mason never really had much of a social life due to this, most of his time spent with his grandparents or more commonly with himself. However, Mason didn't seem to have any problems entertaining and occupying his time. He was never exactly accepted by most of his peers either, as they found his appearance and odd nature too intimidating to really approach him. As a result, Mason ended up spending most of his free time in his room on his computer.
As he got older, he developed a habit of sneaking out at night. It seemed like an entirely different world to him and he felt as if he'd been entranced by it. Places he normally hated during the daytime were usually his favorite areas to visit during the darker hours. As if the spot had been entirely washed clean of everything he disliked about it. It was peaceful...if not almost empowering. Something about it all made him feel as if he could do anything.
After graduating from high school, Mason began attending a college not too far from home and making a bit of money as a freelance web designer. As his grandparents' health began to deteriorate however, he ended up dropping out of college to care for them full-time. This went on for a few years before they both passed away, leaving Mason with their inheritance.
Mason saw no point in going back to college after this. His small job as a freelance web designer had grown over the years and brought in enough money for him to continue living comfortably in the house he grew up in.
