APPEARANCE.
Tall and lanky would be the best fitting descriptions of Danny at first glance. Standing at exactly 5' 10" tall, Danny's stick thin appearance gives the impression that he is only skin and bone, with little to no muscle - that, however, is not the case. While he may not look it due to his choice in clothing, which is more often than not a blue suit jacket worn over a yellow business shirt and blue pants with matching blue shoes, Danny is incredibly well muscled and in excellent shape, even if very lean. Worn with his yellow shirt is often a thin black tie and ocassionally fingerless brown leather gloves when working or when the situation otherwise demands it.
As far as the rest of his appearance goes, the clothing he wears can vary anywhere between appearing spotlessly clean to being downright scruffy, more often than not depending on the day of the week. While he is almost always clean shaven without exception and observes basic hygene rather well, he does very little to control his hair, which has naturally grown to resemble something between a mop and and an afro. Another slight but normally unnoticable difference is the slight difference in the colors of his two eyes - while they are both a brown burgandy color, his right eye is of a slightly brighter coloration than his left.
PERSONALITY.
More than anything Danny would be described as relaxed, although that single word does him little justice, but then again apathy is not at all the word to describe the man. If confronted with the question himself, the most likely response one would get would probably be "I just go with the flow" - over the years, the saying has become something of a catch phrase to him, with Danny known to have quoted it for any problem where time was not of the essence, and even sometimes when it was. Contrary to popular opinion, however, the philosophy has served Danny rather well, and as such he remains a stout believer in the idea that rushing or forcing anything along the path to a desired outcome is usually a bad idea.
That is not to say, however, that Danny would be unwilling to fight for something he does want or believe in - the trick is, however, he'd rarely do it in a direct way. Despite his rather humble origins the man is very intelligent, and not above resorting to trickery and subterfuge to get what he wants of needs - more often than not he'd consider it a greater victory to have actually gotten his oppenent to want what he wants through deceit rather than obtaining something through the use of force. Having been forced to rely on street smarts more than anything when he grew up and having dealt with the violence that came with growing up in the inner city, Danny abhors violence... usually.
There are a few ways to provoke him into fighting, although doing so will usually be a bad idea. Once forced or provoked into a fight, though, his opponent should be prepared for anything and anything. The same environment that resulted in Danny's relaxed nature and street smarts also made him a master pragmatist in combat - while he is able to use his size, speed, strength and experience to his advantage, Danny is perfectly willing to use anything and everything on hand, be it sand, a bottle, a shoe, or even eggs - he achieved everlasting fame as an urban legend back in his home city for using an egg to clog the barrel of an attacker's gun before it could fire.
On the lighter side of things, however, Danny has not lost his sense of humor despite the bad hand he was dealt in life, even though that sense of humor is what others may considered wry, dry, ocassionally strange and sometimes downright bizarre. The michievous streak he had as a child also returned somewhat with the other minor personality changes resulting from the suppression of much of his memory, although his age, experience and what's left of his latent memories often means his mischievous side is held in check most of the time. Contrary to his usual relaxed demeanor, Danny can be competitive beyond all reason if repeatedly provoked, though, and the bullheadedness he showed as a child will also begin to show through in such cases.
HISTORY.
hometown; Trenton, New Jersey, USA
family members;
Father: Richard DeMarco [deceased]
Mother: Sarah DeMarco
Brother: Samuel DeMarco [Missing]
Born in the inner city of Trenton, New Jersey, Daniel "Danny" DeMarco was not to have had the privilaged life that many families took for granted. Having more or less been an accident child and born to a lower class family whose parents neither had the time nor effort to spare on raising him, Danny was more or less raised by his brother. Samuel, when he was not attending one of the city's public schools or otherwise doing unofficial odd jobs to earn pocket money, much of which ended up being spent on Daniel rather than himself. Needless to say, the two brothers developed a very close bond over the years.
As Danny grew older and was gained the ability to walk and speak, he soon found that the smoke filled apartment, courtesy of his father, was not much worse off than the surrounding city. Despite many of the economic and scientific advancements that had come over the years, the inner city still remained a place for the poor, the downtrodden or the hunter to escape, and was by no extension a place for a child to be raised. Danny more or less had no desire to leave the safety of the family's cramp, rundown apartment until he became the age where schooling was mandatory - while they may not have had time for him out of necessity, his parents still cared enough for Danny that they did not want to see him leave, and enrolled him in the same public school that Samuel had attended just as his brother graduated.
As time continued to crawl by, with Danny picking up a number of different skills, among them a style of mixed martial arts he learned from one of the older tennants of their apartment complex over the years who enjoyed actually being able to speak to someone as they grew older. Danny more or less began doing what Samuel had done at his age, picking up various odd jobs for spending money. Courier duty, cleaning, maintenance, caring for pets.... if you can name it and it was doable in a city, chances are that Danny probably did it at some point from the age of ten to fourteen. It was during this time that Danny would meet his digimon partner, with the encounter ocurring in one of the older arcade centers Danny had been hired to clean out when it was closed overnight. The encounter changed Danny's life in ways that were difficult to imagine. While it wasn't to say that he didn't have friends and that he was unable to trust his brother, many of those "friendships" existed for the sake of convenience, and the brother that Danny had been so close to in his younger years would often be away from the house for weeks at a time. That fact was not helped by the recent passing of Danny's father, who had been a heavy smoker and had inadvertantly passed the habit on to Danny himself. The digital world soon became a refuge for Danny once the initial shock had subsided, a way to escape the violence and filth of the real world that Danny had grown up in.
As two more years passed, Danny's life in the real world would continue to deteriorate, with his mother delving deeper into medications to deal with the stress of paying the bills as a single parent and with Samuel simply disappearing, having walked out the door one day as he usually did and never coming back - being quite familiar with how the fringes of Trenton's underworld worked, Danny naturally assumed the worst. Caught between a rock and a hard place and being forced to deal with being more or less left on his own with his increasingly erratic mother at the age of sixteen, there was a time where Danny seriously considered dropping out of school, only to be talked out of it by his partner - while things were tough already, finding a job he could support himself on would be even harder without a high school diploma. Continuing on with that line of thought, Danny finished high school at the age of eighteen, with his mother by then having been taken into the city's protective custody for attempted suicide. With little to hold him there, relatively sure that his mother was safe and fully realizing that without her he'd be forced to fend for himself as he'd more or less done since he could walk, Danny finally did what he'd dreamed about for years - he got the hell out of Dodge, his digimon leaving the city with him rather than going back to the digital world.
Using many of the skills he'd ironically been forced to pick up in Trenton, Danny pretty much did what he'd always done - he did the jobs that needed doing, but that no one wanted to do. It didn't make much, but as Danny continued to move westward across the country he made enough to feed and shelter both himself and his partner. Within a year and a half Danny had reached the west coast, and without anywhere further west to go short of across the pacific, he finally changed direction, beginning to head south rather than west, spending his time in cities such as Seattle and San Diego. Eventually Danny would wind up in Los Angeles, where he would stay for another two and a half years, with more and more of his jobs being performed in the city's asian district the longer he stayed. Eventually Danny was offered a courier job, but not a local one, with the destination being in Japan. Fairly fluent in the language after dealing in it for a few years and itching to get moving again after being settled in one spot for so long, Danny took the job, arriving in Tokyo two months later at the age of 22 - only to run afoul of the recently formed AIR about a week after landfall. Caught and stripped of his digimon partner and digivice and with his memories erased, Danny was transported back to his home city, the only location attached to his name. Before his capture, however, Danny was quick enough and smart enough to hide one thing, and one thing only - his digivice, the predecessor to the D3 and hidden in a crack in a cement wall outside of his apartment building.
With most of his recent years a blur, Danny would have attracted plenty of attention as an invalid... had he been dropped anywhere else. Returned to a city where people knew him for his skills and reliability, everyone who was capable of holding onto him was quick to make use of his skills, and Danny, only retaining his semantic memory, easily fell into place, although not without a certain emptiness, a feeling that he'd forgotten something never quite leaving him. It wasn't until four years later that things changed, with one of Danny's older associates asking why he didn't smoke anymore - in the process of suppressing his memories, AIR had also rid Danny of his smoking addiction. Confused at both the question and the reaction he got when he answered that he had never smoked, Danny began digging into his past after a year of living it, and as he began to dig things began to make less sense. During that short time, Danny discovered that he had been absent from the city for several years before his sudden return, and apart from that he had certain skills he was incapable of explaining - his fluency in both chinese and japanese, for starters, having never ventured into Trenton's asian district for long enough to properly learn them. As Danny began to retrace his past, his backtracking eventually led him out of Trenton, back along the route he had taken westward until he once again found himself in Los Angeles nearly 10 months after he started to dig into his past. Within a week Danny had managed to track down both his former employer and obtain the address he'd delivered the package he'd transported, and two months later Danny found himself in Japan once more, with the empty feeling inside of him more prominent than it had ever been. Still, while the address he had delivered the package to had turned out to be a dead end, there were still a few people who recognized him, and that was more than enough to prove that he was on the right track to figuring out what had happened to him, especially after finding his old digivice after subconsciously being drawn to the small electronic's hiding place. While eerily familiar, however, the device was still foreign to Danny. Still, with digivice in hand and both unwilling and unable to pay for passage back to America, Danny, now 27, remained in Japan in the hopes that eh would find something else that would eventually help him track down what was missing of his past, in the meantime employing his customary skills to feed, clothe and shelter himself while he searched.
