APPEARANCE.
Standing at a height of five feet, seven inches, Hayagawa-kun isn't really all that tall. He's a few pounds underweight at only 140Lbs (63.5Kg). Blonde hair reaches just past his chin, locks of it curling around the side of his face. Some parts of his hair stick out invarious directions from lack of attention. Soft blue eyes are accentuated with a thin ring of black, long nights of working and lack of sleep has created the appearance of permanent eyeliner. Despite this, these eyes are full of life and contain the intent gaze of an investigator. Broad shoulders and a lean figure, he has the body of someone who periodically works out.
Hayagawa-kun is always ready for work, sporting a blue suit jacket and pants, a dark blue shirt, and a blue tie. Black dress shoes adorn his feet, always kept as clean as possible. He always keeps a nine millimeter handgun at his left hip, being dominantly left handed. A wristwatch is clasped around his right wrist, covered slightly by his shirt and jacket. A silver tie clip holds both parts of his tie together to prevent them from getting in the way of his work. When he's working out of the office and on the field, sometimes he may be spotted wearing a clear plastic jumpsuit of sorts, depending on what the work requires of him.
PERSONALITY.
Lonely. Oh so very lonely. But Hayagawa-kun is good at hiding his emotions behind a facade, a mask of happy emotions and smiles. He tries to impress people, to make people like him. But impressing turns into naivety, and people using him for their own purposes. And then the hurt comes. The backstabbing. And then back to being lonely again. Even more lonely than he had been before.
Hayagawa-kun is actually quite shy, but pushes himself out of his shell hoping to meet people that he could eventually become close with and ease the loneliness. He much prefers to keep to himself, and with the job that he has, he can spend plenty of time by himself analyzing evidence. He constantly strives to be more involved with people, trying to pull himself out of his shyness and introversion.
Very loyal and trustworthy, those who do become Hayagawa-kun's friend gain a very good one. He's a very good listener, and believe it or not, quite good at giving advice. He takes pride in being able to help other people, even if he can't help himself. He also has a strong sense of justice, resulting from an incident that happened when he was a child (see history).
If he can't be happy, the least he can do is help others to be.

"I'm sorry, Hayagawa-kun, but your parents..."
At four years of age, Hayagawa-kun lost both of his parents. He was never told the exact cause of death, but was told it had been a very bad accident. The loss of both of his parents at such a young age was devastating to young Kiyoshi, and is the reason behind such extreme loneliness he exhibits as an adult. He went from a very active and genuinely happy child to an introverted and quiet one. Hayagawa-kun was shuffled from foster home to foster home. He kept to himself during school, not interacting with children his age. He didn't slack in his school work however, his grades staying high all through elementary and middle school.
His grades slacked slightly through high school, still being shuffled from home to home. In his second year of high school, he was called into a meeting to go over his parents' death again, and was finally explained to that it hadn't been an accident that had killed his parents, they had been murdered. A spark alighted within Hayagawa-kun then, and he told himself he would do well in school so that he could go to college and eventually become a criminalist, hoping somehow he could find out who murdered his parents.
In his last year of high school, his parents' murderer was caught and sentenced to life in prison, but he was still driven to his goal of becoming a criminalist, determined not to let anyone else have to go through what he had gone through as a young child. He graduated high school with flying colors, and a few scholarships for forensic studies at a nearby university and an internship with the local police force in their forensics unit.

"But sir-!"
Two sets of footsteps echoed against the hard tile floors. One set was walking briskly down the hallway, the other struggling to keep up.
"This is the second time I've told you, Hayagawa. You're still too new to the precinct for me to throw you out onto the scene. I don't think you're ready for the brutality of a murder."
Hayagawa Kiyoshi opened his mouth to argue when the older man in front of him stopped abruptly and turned around to face the younger man. Hayagawa stared at the older man, his mouth still opened stupidly in the middle of arguing back.
"Listen, Hayagawa-san. You're too fragile at the moment. You've only just joined us and I don't want to risk hurting you mentally. "
Hayagawa finally gained enough sense to close his mouth and think about what the Chief was talking about. Sure he was new to the forensics unit, but compared to what he had gone through in his classes at school he felt he was ready for it.
"Sir, I really think I'm ready for field work. Analyzing in the lab is all fine and dandy with me, but I really want to make a difference. And the only way I can do that is by finding and collecting the evidence at the scene. I feel I'm prepared."
The Chief was stunned for a moment. This kid had some guts if he was so eager to join in with the field work. A murder scene was not something to be eager about seeing, and most of the new kids weren't as eager. The glint in the kid's eyes showed promise, and an urge to help people.
"Alright then, Hayagawa. Let's see what you've got."
