APPEARANCE.
It is easy to tell that Molly is not from around Japan, or from anywhere in Asia. Even before she begins to complain about the smog and the heat – her heart-shaped, pale, and finely freckled face is not a common trait of these parts. While she is of legal age, she does have a deceptively youthful face; complete with button nose and distinctive white brown eyes. Her height does not add much to the allusion, either – but that is not the trickiest bit in trying to discern who exactly Molly is.
Since fourteen, when the 'troublesome' aspects of her personality started to gain favour over the cute and cuddly little farmer's daughter, Molly went through a phase of dying and cutting her hair in a veritable rainbow of colours – green, yellow, blue – you name it, she did it. It has left her, at only twenty-one years of age, with a head hair that can be politely described as 'fried'. She no longer dies it – letting it instead stay it's natural, though no less eye-catching dusky red, but the damage has been done. It's current style remains incredibly short – wiry bits shooting out only an inch or two off her head. It is an untamable tangle, which improves her image as a rock musician – but does nothing for her personal femininity.
Speaking of femininity – there isn't much of it with Molly. She isn't a fan of heavy makeup unless she's on stage – and either will opt for wearing way too much of it to catch in the stage lights, or none at all when dealing with everyday life. Casual wear for her consists of ancient band t-shirts and jeans that she's owned since her last growth spurt at seventeen – the jeans a little tight while the shirts overly baggy so that most of them hang off her shoulders partway, or she ties the extra fabric up into a knot at the waist. Because they are baggy attire, they cover up what does show she is both and adult and a girl – and she is often (much to her chagrin) mistaken for a 12 year old boy.
PERSONALITY.
Subtly is not Molly's strong suit. A self-proclaimed rockstar, 'go big or go home' is essentially the motto that has taken over all aspects of her life. Her idols include long-dead music stars of mod and rock genre from her parent's scene – and she does her damnedest to emulate them the best she can. A regular employer;s worst nightmare – she is prone to fits of yelling at both her band mates and getting into regular frays just as soon as look at someone.
If there is one thing to watch out for with the young Irishwoman, it is her temper. When she snaps – she really snaps – and she won't hesitate to throw her clout around. Out of anyone in her band, she is the one who gets into the most fights – both verbal and physical. Coupled with this troublesome aspect of her personality is a penchant to easily jump to conclusions – or to think without acting. Anyone who misjudges her for being a little kid, or for being a weak-minded girl has another thing coming.
At least Molly doesn't kid herself about being famous or the 'next big thing'. Her band, she knows, is crap – barely good enough to play the dives they work in and to pay off rent on the dive they call an apartment. Music has been the only thing that has stayed constant in her life however- and therefore she is actually afraid to turn anywhere else to make a living. While big and brash on the outside, there is a good deal of Molly that is incredibly self-critical; wondering if she's the one holding her friends back, if she's good enough for anything, if she should crawl back home to mum and da and try to make something of her life that isn't a career bordering on professional homelessness and delinquency. Her strength of character, you could say, is her best coping mechanism from her own doubt – but she has constantly been trying to search for a way in which to make herself feel even better – to feel needed, or in the very least less useless. Which is partly why she was driven to A.I.R and their 'unique' proposition in the first place.
HISTORY.
hometown; Cork, Ireland
family members; name of character’s family members along with their relationship. Ex. John Smith [Father] Seamus O'Daae [Mother] Maureen O'Daae [Brothers] Donovan, Richard, Seamus Jr. and Keith O'Daae
To say that Molly was the apple of her parent's eye would be, well – an outright lie. She was the 'accident' baby – the youngest of a whopping five children born to Seamus and Maureen O'Daae, a farmer couple in Cork County, Ireland. Her 'youngest' brother was five years older than her, and being the only girl in a family of strong boys, she was already at a disadvantage.
But Molly was no softie, even as a kid. Constantly getting in the way of her brothers had a benefit, as she forced her way into being taught all the things they were. She wrestled, and helped on the farm to her heart's content. The biggest influence on her life, however, was through her brother Keith – who was seventeen when she was four or five – and played music down at a local pub. He saw his little sister perched on the fringes whenever he practised – and eventually brought her into their garage while he worked, teaching her how to play his personal Favourite – the drums.
Teenage hood did not go well for Molly, as she started to rebuke against their rural lifestyle. She listened to music and watched television that glamourized life in big cities – and she wanted to go there to. As her parents were obviously not going to let a fourteen year old off on her own, Molly was driven instead to acting out in different ways – hence the 'different rainbow colour' every week and less that sweet little girl attitude tantrums. At school, she joined a band which included some boys from the city – which didn't help quench her love for the big city life. When she was old enough to graduate, she was so desperate and thought only of leaving home, that when her band decided they were going to 'make it real' and leave to travel the world and find their niche, using their parent's trust funds – well...Molly took whatever she had and tagged along.
What she found was less than appetizing. One of their mate's bright ideas was to go to Japan – thinking that the underground music scene was perfect for them. They had some luck – but not anything else. She's stuck with four people in a three room apartment – and debates daily about just giving up and begging her parents to bring her home. While most of her band mates have become essentially nocturnal – Molly's attempts to at least enjoy and explore the city in the first few months she was there lead her to A.I.R and their morally ambiguous offer. Having nothing better to do – and a habit of diving in to situation with both feet first, has lead her to test out what it's like to 'own' something that is 'just' hers – and like a greedy child, is thus far enjoying the arrangement.
