APPEARANCE.
Makoto is, in a word, nerdy. He's nearsighted and thus doomed to wear sometimes silly-looking prescription lenses, which hide his chocolate eyes. He's had them since he was a grade schooler, though, and has no interest in getting contacts. Makoto is pale, but not sickly. Perhaps he'd look less light if it weren't for his navy-hued hair, a dark, wild cut. He gets the wave in his hair from his mother, prominent in his long bangs and at the nape of his neck. His most likely expression is a soft smile, though what precisely he's smiling about is questionable.
Makoto's style tends to make him look bigger than he is. He favors a large olive-colored zip-up sweatshirt with a stiff collar that also has a hood attached. The zipper is black, as are some detailed ribbing on the sleeves and torso. The back of the sweatshirt is a creamy white in a band that stops halfway between the zipper and the side seam. Makoto usually keeps the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. He will vary the colors and cuts of his hoodies, but they're usually what he wears. In warmer weather, Makoto will adapt by wearing dark-toned dress shirts with the top button undone. On his lower half, he wears a surprisingly well-fitting pair of denim jeans and a pair of French gray and white-detailed sneakers.
PERSONALITY.
Makoto seems to take after his father. He's detail oriented and filled with a sense of responsibility (often times for things he really he no control over), which makes him reliable. While reserved best sums him up, Makoto is known to be neurotic - prone to lose control and go into a panic if things start going wrong. This doesn't hinder him from making decisions, and it doesn't make him cowardly - it simply makes him and often everyone around him stress out. He does try to be polite enough to have his episodes privately, but that's not always possible.
Tending to be a fatherly in his demeanor, it seems that other digidestined - especially younger kids (including his brother) put their trust in Makoto. He doesn't mind - mainly because he looks out for them anyway. He's afraid to let anyone down, adding the stress of being a people pleaser. Makoto likes to think things through, mainly for safety's sake, which more "go-getter" types may find irksome. Makoto is constant and reliable.
Makoto is a true Straight Man. He tried being the type to joke around, but he found it awkward. Instead he's accidentally humorous - usually in a deadpan or sarcastic way - though he's sheepish about it. Overall, though, Makoto is easy to get along with. He's relateable, intelligent, kind, and dependable. Some may see him as a stick-in-the-mud, but he's a nice guy. Too nice, perhaps, but nice nonetheless. He gets angry, but hardly ever does he display it verbally. Makoto has a firm moral center and very clear ideas on right and wrong.
Makoto enjoys recreational reading, comic books, and table top games (such as Dungeons and Dragons or Call of Cthulhu); though he tries to participate moderately.

Being a quiet kid, Makoto certainly didn't fit in at school or have an abundance of friends. He made good grades, even if he had to work hard at it, and thus has one less thing for his parents to worry over. Makoto did, though, always have a yearning to "fit in". He struggled with his identity in early adolescence, trying to be the class clown. Once he was older, though, he settled into being himself. As far as his love life went, there wasn't much of one. He likes girls and would like to have a girlfriend..but he's, in a manner of speaking, the broccoli of dating - what every woman needs except they don't realize it. Makoto always had a few close friends, but tended to still be the awkward one. All the time.
Makoto's getting close to heading off to university, where he plans to follow in his father's footsteps to be a doctor. He and his dad get along amazingly, though Jou has to remind Makoto to calm down every now and again. Makoto loves his mother dearly, too, but refrains from bearing his soul to her because he's taken her sometimes harsh criticism to heart in the past. They have a good but not consistently deep relationship. As far as his brother goes, Makoto acts as a typical protective "no one makes fun of my brother except me" attitude.
