"Yes!" Khai snapped defensively as Valus echoed his statement. It wasn't a stupid request! This was easy. If he wanted to, he probably could think of some mean things to do instead, but he didn't. Yet Valus was acting all astonished, as if it was so difficult to grasp. What was it? Did he think he was so much better that it was ludicrous for them to hang out with each other? That was probably it. If he was going to take that attitude well, Khai's hand inched closer to the call box.
Then the amused snort came from the monster thing, and she piped up, calling deal. Khai mirrored the creature's grin. Score! Khai thought, listening eagerly as the creature went on. "Promise! What's the number?" He said, pulling his hand away from the wall and grabbing a notepad and pencil from his pocket. Khai's eyes were wide with glee. This was perfect! Absolutely perfect! He had made a couple of new friends, and better yet he was on his leash! Had to do what he said, they couldn't leave him, make him sad, nothing, since he had their secret! Ha!
When the creature mentioned her name, he nodded in agreement. ModokiBetamon was a bit of a mouthful. Modoki. "My name's Khai!" He said gleefully. His gaze then fell on Valus, who had gone quiet again. "And you are Valoose?" He inquired, remembering what Modoki had kept referring to him as, though he didn't have a clue how her accent actually affected the pronunciation.
Now subject to his beck and call and introductions were out of the way, there was the question of what exactly to do with all this. Khai looked down from the window. If any progress had been made on getting the wheel moving again, he couldn't quite tell from this high up. Ideas were racing through his head, but with the amount of time it would take for this wheel to get moving unknown, it seemed they'd all have to wait a while before he could reap the benefits of having his new friends.
Of course though, Khai still had a bajillion questions to ask these two, particularly about Modoki. If anything else, they could do a little Q&A while they waited. "So... What exactly was that thing that made Modoki look like a person?" It was the first question that came to mind. He saw Valus grab something off of Modoki, and she said it wasn't working, so it was a simple conclusion that it was the object that made her human.

- ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ Scared. He felt scared again. The situation was beginning to remind him of Toy Town. It was deja vu being cornered like this - having his fate thrust into the hands of somebody who he had no reason to trust at all. He wanted someone to think about his opinion for a change, instead of just having to go along with what other people told him he had to do, because his own desires were wrong, or didn't matter. "My name isn't Valoose! I'm Valus!" Making his own voice heard after the boy identified himself as Khai, a final flash of indignance. He was frightened, yes, but when fear didn't work his instinct was to reach for anger. Blistering, fiery anger, enough to help him overcome the terror of failure, and what it would bring... Anticipating his resistance, Modoki glanced up at him slowly with a placid expression. "Watch noo Valoo... Khai jus' want some company like." She explained as she perceived. "Ain't no fun being outnumbered, after all." Wording things carefully, she watched as Valus' expression turned from bitter, to contemplating. Outnumbered... alone. He felt like that a lot. Getting angry all the time... that was just another way of forgetting it. "Can't actually remember the number m'self lad! But Valoos can tell ye, right?" Nudging his foot encouragingly, Valus blinked, glancing over at Khai and looking at him, really at him. Really, this kid just wanted some new friends, right? He wanted someone in his corner. An ally, someone to be his backup. To ask him that, it meant that this kid... this kid didn't want to be lonely either. ... why was he resisting this!?"It's a thing for Digimon - creatures like Modoki." His heart thudding, Valus found that he needed to slow down while speaking. His words had become rushed all of a sudden, and he couldn't tell why. "I'll put it back on her in a minute and show you. I'll tell you all about them if you want - everything you want to know. Just ask." The corners of his mouth twitching, without even realizing it, Valus spread them into a smile. "Okay, okay. Valus. Yeesh." Khai snorted when Valus corrected him. He didn't think the guy had to be so grumpy about it. How exactly was he supposed to know when he didn't say so himself? Khai wondered why this guy was so grumpy. Was it such a terrible deal to be his friend? Khai felt a teeny bit insulted. Still, the leash he had on him made it worth it to him still. Plus Modoki had to be the coolest thing ever. He could take Valus' grumpy attitude if it meant being friends with her!
Khai waited, notepad and pencil still in hands as he waited for some sort of number, but frowned when Modoki said she couldn't remember. He turned to Valus instead, who was finally looking at him, and not seeming to be quite as grumpy. Yes, thinking! Khai didn't really want to tell everyone about Modoki. That would ruin his own fun and this whole opportunity. He wanted this all to work out to how he wanted it. Valus and Modoki would be his friend, and they would do all sorts of fun things with him! They'd be happy like those kids that were always running around outside his house.
As Valus explained how the strange device that disguised Modoki, Khai hopped over to Valus and Modoki's side of the car, eyes staring with utter curiosity at Modoki. He reached over and patted her. Her skin was slick, slimey, like a frog. "Come here Modoki!" He said, tugging her arm. "Creatures like Modoki? So there is more like her? COOL. Where do they come from? And whats the thing called?" Khai fired off more questions, last referring to the disguise matrix.

- ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ Holding his hands on his knees, Valus eyed the boy warily as he crossed over, his smile wavering for a moment in hesitation. He wanted to trust this kid... he really did. But it was going to be an effort to do it. Wait... what was he saying now? Digimon were... cool? He saw it like that? "Cha! Makin' me blush, you are!" Modoki chortled with a bubbly grin, hopping up onto the seat in the space between the two humans, where Khai could reach her better. The boy's naivete didn't seem to bother her in the slightest, and slowly he let himself ease backwards into his seat. The way he saw it was like an adventure. He didn't let himself dwell so much on the danger posed by such monsters... was that a good thing? "Hold on... um, Khai right?" he swallowed, reluctant to put a child in danger, but at the same time cautious about alarming him. Especially when he could still turn around and tell on him at any time. Telling him about how scary it all was right now might also ruin the chance of... well, friendship. "I just need to let you know..." how many people were after him, now? How many allies did he actually have? What was the value of one less enemy? "... sometimes I'll be busy with stuff like school." Valus sighed, "I won't be free all the time. But I'll tell you stuff in advance, alright?" feeling guilty and relieved both at once, he received a curious glance from Modoki - but she didn't seem to be able to read his thoughts quite as well this time. He coughed to clear a lump in his throat. "Right. Now, I know this probably sounds pretty crazy... but as Modoki will gladly tell you, I'm a really lousy liar." for his comment, he received a satisfied nod from the amphibian in question. "There's another world connected to ours, where everything is Digital. Computer information, data, electronic signals... I don't know how it all works yet."Reaching into his pocket, Valus drew out something new. A black and grey hand-held device... the sight of it seemed to make Modoki feel unease. "This is what you need to get there. I'm told that it's called a Digivice - that's what the people who sold it to me said." his thumb sliding over one of the buttons, the screen flashed and started beeping. In the middle, there was a bright glowing dot, with two smaller shapes. "Take a look. That's us!" he exclaimed, smiling a little himself at being able to let the secret off his chest to someone... besides those others. [/size] ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ -
