If the sound of ModokiBeatmon's scream of pain was wonderful to him - assurance that he had finally hurt her - the following, shrill noise only inflicted pain.
Unused to human appliances, BlackGabumon had no idea what that infernal beeping was - but he knew it hurt his sensitive hearing, enough to distract him from anything other than the desire to silence it. Gathering energy again, he blasted fire at the source of the noise and then turned again to behold the tower of water set to crash upon him. His opponent addressed him, and he paused - she was trying to make him feel better? She was wasting time, though, when he could be getting to Avari -
At that point the water crashed down, and the ice he formed as a shield only just managed to weaken the attack - it still knocked him back, the shock making his body jerk. He stifled the instinctive urge to yelp or growl - the pain wasn't crippling - and got to his feet again, instantly breathing out another quick plume of fire at her current position on the wall. He had no illusions that she would actually stay there, but she had the right of it for once - the wanton destruction with a target in mind, and a great deal of collateral chaos, was releasing the terror that had been running through him all night.
For a moment, he stopped and considered the destruction they had caused. There might have been little chance of convincing Valus to aid him now, if it had not been his partner who had started the battle. He was not to blame - he had held himself in check until challenged.
It was easier to push past the bloodlust and the need to kill and devour - he did feel calmer, though the underlying concern and fear of Avari's safety remained ever the same. Breathing hard, he didn't move to attack her - instead, he turned his head to look at Valus out of the corner of an eye.
"Can you... fix it? The computer?"

- ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ The smoke alarm stopped it's infernal bleeping, Modoki dropping down off the wall as BlackGabumon's final volley of flames scorched the spot she'd been sticking to moments earlier. Grinning with satisfaction from her successful attack, she winked again, mirroring the gesture she'd made just before the start of the battle. "Feelin' better? I know I am, rightly so!"Valus understood what was going on now. Or at least, he thought he did. The black wolf seemed calmer. Calm enough to start talking, at least. Which was an improvement from his earlier restless anxiety, which Modoki had been able to trigger a little too easily, even by her standards. He got the feeling that there had been more on her mind than the canine's emotional stability, though. She'd been a little too eager to harm him. His house was wrecked. And she hadn't even stopped to think before starting the fight that had done it. "... let me check." Stepping into the landing now that the fighting seemed to be over, at least for the time being, Valus was forced to edge his way around the massive hole in the middle of the floor. He still wanted to help BlackGabumon reach Shion, and in a way, he felt as though this added delay was somehow his fault. His partnership with Modoki was obviously as fake as the Digivice he'd bought with her, and their relationship was one of jealousy and distrust. He was being kind to even do this in the first place, but it didn't feel like enough. He felt like he had to apologize to the wolf for this. "Isn't like I damaged the thing, as such. Jus' yanked out one o' them cable things." Modoki spoke the truth. When Valus finally did reach the door to his father's room, he opened it and found the modem lying there on the floor, with the telephone cable right next to it. "First thing though, both o' ye needed to know that I ain't jus' a pretty face!" Turning his head at this, Valus met Modoki's gaze, which moved between himself and BlackGabumon. "I'm the bark, an' you're the bite! Wha' say you to that, Gabs?" Sounding as though she'd been trying to prove some kind of point by doing all of this, Valus wondered if his earlier assumption that she'd been jealous hadn't been far off the mark. It wasn't hard to notice the way he respected BlackGabumon, but he'd been operating under the assumption that she was oblivious to it. "Valoos an' me are coming with you, like. Have a problem with tha'? I can fight some more." Her envy of the way he found other partners more desirable than her... it brought out her violent side, Valus realized. She hated to be scorned, then? "Ain't got much choice really, lad. Let us 'elp you out like, else could be days before ye find Shion... so? Wanna be friends?"... an ultimatum now? At first, he didn't understand her meaning - and when he did, he felt... confused. Why should she have cared about how he felt, let alone tried to fight to calm him down?
The tension was returning, but slowly - he could think clearly, Avari still being the focus of his thoughts, but not enough to drive him into a frenzy. It was... a relief, in a way. He watched Valus as he went to examine whatever Modoki had done, and there seemed to be no damage there - that room had escaped the flooding.
"I never thought less of you," he told Modoki, knowing full well that he had barely thought of her at all - and that her message was probably meant for her partner. She seemed generally amiable, and perhaps Valus did not like that trait in something he had bought to protect and guard him. Still, she had skill, and her attacks were powerful. Effective, in such cramped space.
He growled softly as she continued, head tilting to the side. He wanted to instantly deny it but if they continued fighting...
Avari.
No, he could not place his need to prove a point or to defeat an enemy above her. She was in danger - why else would she have left so suddenly, after all - and he needed to be with her. Modoki's well-placed comment on not being able to find her for days hurt too. He needed them, as much as he knew it would harm him and, more importantly, hurt Avari. If she was hurt, she could be vulnerable - she would not want Valus and Modoki to see her then.
"You can accompany me," he said. "I can hardly claim that we are friends yet." And with that, he walked back to where the computer sat, staring at the screen and waiting for the connection to be established - if Modoki wished to press her case, she could talk to him while he waited for the gate.

- ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ Valus felt... pleased at the outcome, despite everything it had taken to achieve it. "Ta' lad! I dun' think any less o' you than I did before neither!" Modoki called after BlackGabumon as he returned back to the dining room, before turning to him and smirking. Standing in the middle of the ruined room like it was a mark of her worth, beaming for all the world like she felt proud of herself. Well, she was still alive. Considering that her opponent had been BlackGabumon it was really quite an effort. Plus, she got him agree to let them come along. Returning her smile hesitantly, Valus reached down and picked up the cable, slotting it back into the modem. The lights changed from red to green immediately. Standing up, Modoki leaped over the crater and scurried into the dining room while he worked his way around it, waiting with a smug expression for him to join her and the black wolf. This was the moment of truth. "This time it will work." Valus said as he grasped the mouse, clicking it twice and attempting to connect for a second time. Sure enough, the 59 second timer appeared again, counting down to zero while he stepped away. Picking his Digivice up off the table in preparation, he then quickly went over to the cupboards, taking out a box of matches and putting them in his pockets. Thinking, what else could he bring... "Blimey! It has an' all!"Upon hearing Modoki's shout, he dashed back over to the table with no time to swipe anything else. The screen now said - CONNECTED - in bright green words, and he was quick to act, holding out his Digivice towards it. The was a faint red glow from the object, and slowly the image on the screen began to morph into what looked like a geometric spiral spinning around in black and white. "I likes this part, so I dooOoOoOoOoes!" Modoki's shaky voice gradually faded, replaced by random bleeps and noise as the screen appeared to enlarge itself before them, when in fact they were all really shrinking, their forms being compressed for the purpose of transport. 9.19 AM. Another day of being a missing person. [/size] ~ - ~ - ~ - ~ -
