"I didn't have to, at least not with dad. He's almost never home anyways thanks to his job, so I doubt he'll hear of it at all." Ryusuke said, glancing briefly over his shoulder as he answered Sakura's question regarding his extended absence from the real world. "School...... was a bit trickier. I couldn't say that I tagged along with dad on a business trip or anything since they'd have checked with him and he'd have found out, so I just said my arm needed some work done on it. Not really a lie since it did need repairs when I got back, so they could check with my doctor all they wanted and I'd still be clear."
That being said, though, it had been a close dodge, thinking back on it now. He couldn't very well tell them what had really happened, they would never had believed him and probably would have ascribed it to lunacy or something, and Ryusuke had no intention of being locked in a padded cell. That, and hiding it from his dad would have been much trickier, if not impossible, had he used any other excuse. All in all it had more or less just been a matter of worrking out who he saw and spoke to and in what order, building up a credible excuse from the ground up - had he gone to the school before visiting his doctor, for example, he doubted things would have worked out at all.
Hearing Sakura's comment about how she and her brother had gotten their digimon wasn't exactly pleasing news, though - apparently only he and that other kid had been unlucky enough to meet their partners as they had, having been forcibly sucked into the digital world. If anything it sounded like Sakura's experience was the norm, going off of what had happened with his cousin earlier when they'd first started this trek.
"You could say that. It was the other way around for us, I got brought to him." Ryusuke replied. As he continued to blindly follow Monodramon, though, the sudden lack of sound ahead drew his attention.
"Monodramon, you there?" Ryusuke called ahead, pausing for a moment so as not to miss a possible response. After several moments of silence Ryusuke gritted his teeth in slight irritation before continuing straight ahead, only to see Monodramon a moment later as Ryusuke broke through the vegetation and into the clearing the see the purple dragon standing in the middle of the open space and looking straight up towards the mountain.
"What're you doing? We need to find a wa-" Ryusuke started, beginning to move towards his partner before stopping. Monodramon, having snapped out of his daze, had looked over to Ryusuke while simultaneously pointing straight ahead of himself, his talon leading to the bottom of a gentle slope, almost like a purposefully built path.
"Will that work?" Monodramon asked, continuing to point towards the path leading up the side of the mountain. Ryusuke, not having much to say beyond a simple "Yeah", turned back to make sure that Sakura was keeping up with them.
"You sure you want to ditch the bag? The going looks fairly easy from here." Ryusuke called back to them, still in the undergrowth as Monodramon, no longer being watched by Ryusuke, began moving ahead towards the pathway.
